Native Prairies Association of Texas: Pairing Wines & Prairies Tour (Mathews Prairie Fundraiser) - Fort Worth

Help NPAT purchase the Paul Mathews Prairie by joining us on a fundraiser wine-tasting excursion & jaunt to the Caddo-LBJ National Grassland. The Paul Mathews Prairie is a rare and pristine 100-acre remnant of the Blackland Prairie near Floyd, Tx., in Hunt County.

We have chartered a bus to take us to Wise County to explore the LBJ National Grasslands & top the trip off with an afternoon of wine tasting at Marker Cellars.

UTA Institute for Sustainability and Global Impact: North Texas Regional Water Conservation Symposium - Arlington

The morning speaker lineup includes, George S. Hawkins, Esq, CEO and general manager of D.C. Water, sharing his passion for the water industry and drive to create future water leaders. WFAA, Channel 8, Weather’s Colleen Coyle will give her perspective on our current weather conditions and Eric Eckl, founder of Water Words That Work will round out the morning by providing insight on communicating effectively.

REI: Fort Worth Nature Center Work Day - Fort Worth

The Natural Guard assist Fort Worth Nature Center staff with projects ranging from habitat restoration, brush clearing, trail and park maintenance, trail and infrastructure construction, wildlife monitoring, special events preparation and much more. We will be helping to destructing and rebuilding a new bridge on Canyon Ridge trail which is one of the more difficult trails. We will hopefully complete the same day. For less construction oriented folks, there will also be a slight trail re-route associated with the new bridge and trail trimming.

North Texas Master Naturalists: Effects of Wind Turbines on Birds & Bats: Dallas

Presentation on the effects of wind turbines on birds and bats by Dr. Amanda Hale. Dr. Hale is an ecologist and evolutionary biologist with a strong interest in conservation biology. She received her M.S. in Ecology from Purdue University and a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Miami. Dr. Hale has extensive field experience in a wide range of habitats across the U.S. and Costa Rica, and has more than 20 years of practical experience conducting field and lab-based research.

The Nature Conservancy of Texas: Tallgrass Tour - Greenville

We'll be leading walks through the late summer blooms, including some of Texas’ true ‘tall grasses’! The 1,400-acre Clymer meadow contains one of the last remnants of the Blackland Prairie, an ecosystem that once stretched from the Texas coast to southern Manitoba. Our wildflower tour will bring you up close and personal different types of rare prairieland and expose you to a variety of rare plants. Cameras, sunscreen, hat, long pants, hiking boots, bottled water, sack lunch and bug spray are all recommended. Pack a picnic lunch and a beverage, and bring the whole family!
