Blackland Prairie Chapter: Holiday Shindig - Dallas

We gather in the open and rambling spaces of Milo to recount a year saving prairie spaces and tip a few to congratulate ourselves. 

The party at Milo Butterfingers is also a fundraiser for the Bob Uhler Jesuit Scholarship Fund. A $10 donation will be requested (not demanded) which will entitle you to plenty of tamales, two draft beers and a raffle. Dallas Sierra Club: Land Preservation, Zero Waste & Overpopulation - Farmers Branch

See three presentations from different speakers about preserving land (The Nature Conservancy), zero waste in DFW (Texas Campaign for the Environment), and solutions to overpopulation (Population Connection).

Free. All welcome.

Native Prairies Association of Texas, Blackland Chapter: Cedar Ridge Preserve Workday - Dallas

We will help restore a Blackland Prairie parcel that has had no attention since the 1990s. Volunteers will plant 250 one-gallon pots of native grasses and forbs. Jobs include moving plants, digging holes, prepping soil, planting and watering. Wear long pants and hiking boots. Hats and sunglasses recommended. Bring a water bottle and insect repellent.

Fort Worth Audubon Society: Hummingbirds of Ecuador and Columbia - Fort Worth

Learn about some of the world’s most amazing and beautiful birds. Ecuador and Columbia have more than 160 hummingbird species with habitats ranging from sea level to 14,000 feet. Bob & Vicki Moore have traveled to both countries several times and will present identification information, preferred habitats and beautiful photographs covering various species such as Thorntails, Hermits, Woodstars, Emeralds, Sapphires, Sunangels and many more.

Dallas Sierra Club: Wildflowers of North Texas & Cacti and Succulents - Farmers Branch

Learn about our area's native wildflowers and also about cacti and succulents from two speakers with colorful photos. Carol Clark will take you on a virtual tour of native wildflowers, past and present. And Irwin Lightstone will talk about cacti and succulents, and how they should play an increasingly prominent role in landscaping our exteriors and interiors.
