Synopsis: Harriet Hemenway was a Boston socialite who launched one of the first popular movements in defense of the environment. Come discover how this remarkable woman skillfully used her personality, wealth and social connections to succeed where others have failed. Our presentation on Harriet Hemenway is part of a series of hour long programs created at Kleb Woods Nature Preserve called Conservation Pioneers.
Jeff Hinkson, Strawn Chamber of Commerce; Kevin Good, TPWD assistant director of State Parks; and George Bristol, parks advocate, will provide us with updates on the status and economic benefits of the park, as well as a history of the park and how it will fit into the park system. They will also provide information on the upcoming legislative session and how to advocate for park funding.
Potluck dinner. Bring a dish to share.
Gloves, bags and tools provided. We will be picking up various areas of the park.
Please bring your favorite work gloves, shovel, litter picker upper, or gardening tools.
Wear appropriate clothing for the weather and for working in a natural area (long pants, long sleeves, sturdy shoes, hat).
Water and snacks will be available.
