Events will range from birding walks, to family hands-on activities that celebrate birds, to kayaking while watching for birds. Several activities are free with admission to LLELA of $5 per vehicle, while others require pre-registration by the Friday, May 5. Full details can be found on LLELA’s website.
7:30 a.m. Bird Walk
Join a bird walk led by an expert birder who knows all the hot spots. May is prime time for warblers and other migrants at LLELA. Beginners are welcome. Bring your binoculars. Ages 10 and up. Free, and registration is not required.
Pull up a camp chair and listen to Master Naturalist Scott Kiester tell us about one of our native insect controls – bats. Then watch the sun set and the stars appear as you enjoy traditional campfire fun: stories, songs, and of course, s'mores! $10/person. Attendees can talk with tree experts and vendors. Children can learn how to climb a tree, watch and participate in a snake encounters show and enjoy a tree house slide. Attendees will receive free tree saplings, informational booklets and giveaway items while supplies last.
Performances by the Singing Zoologist Lucas Miller, green vendors, eco-education, wildlife encounters, live music and food at the Cedar Hill Government Center. Free T-shirts to the first 200 attendees!
