Owls hooting, armadillos rustling in the underbrush, maybe a coyote howling…we never know what we might hear on a night hike on the trails through Central Park. Join our guides as they lead a stroll down the trail, listening for owls as we go. We’ll end our hike by warming up around a campfire, where we will make s’mores and sip hot chocolate. $5/per person. Step back in time when you visit the historic Minor-Porter log house. Visitors of all ages are welcome to arrive at any time during the open house. You’ll get a feel for pioneer life as you tour the log home, smoke house, barn, dugout, and homestead grounds. Knowledgeable docents will add to your experience. You may even be able to try your hand at a craft from the 1870s. Free with $5/vehicle entrance fee to LLELA (cash or check only).
There will be a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse on Friday, February 10. (Weather permitting) Starting at dark-thirty, members of the Fort Worth Astronomical Society will set up their telescopes for free public viewing of the celestial event. Moonrise is at 6:06pm. Friends of Tandy Hills Natural Area hosts a Brush Bash one day a year to clear sections of the prairie of invasive and unwanted trees, brush and trash. Bring gloves, sturdy shoes, hat, water, tarps, loppers, wheelbarrows and wagons. Coffee, tea, hot cocoa & morning snacks provided. All ages welcome.
With one of a kind events including the 13th annual Trinity River Levee Run, the largest outdoor yoga class in Texas (Yoga on the Bridge), and the largest urban gravel bike ride in the U.S. (Gravelthon! Dallas). All Out Trinity attracts a broad group of participants and spectators, from elite athletes to fun-loving families. People from all ages and walks of life participate in this annual event.
Vegetarian themed festival featuring food, speakers, cooking demos and vendors. Theme this year is: “Rock Your Health.” The keynote speaker will be Aph Ko, a black vegan feminist theorist and independent digital media producer. Aph is the founder of Black Vegans Rock, a digital project devoted to spotlighting individual Black vegans. Free.
Join a naturalist to look for birds, deer, and signs of animal activity in one of the Refuge’s more secluded areas. This is a great chance to spot wildlife while there are no leaves on the trees along this heavily wooded trail. Dress for the weather and bring your binoculars. $5 with paid admission.
