Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area: Celebrate Birds - Lewisville

Events will range from birding walks, to family hands-on activities that celebrate birds, to kayaking while watching for birds. Several activities are free with admission to LLELA of $5 per vehicle, while others require pre-registration by the Friday, May 5. Full details can be found on LLELA’s website.

7:30 a.m. Bird Walk 

Join a bird walk led by an expert birder who knows all the hot spots. May is prime time for warblers and other migrants at LLELA. Beginners are welcome. Bring your binoculars. Ages 10 and up. Free, and registration is not required.

8-9:30 a.m. Migration Bird Banding

Banding birds allows scientists to study migration patterns, the ranges of a bird, and how long a bird has lived. LLELA is permitted to run a banding station. You can join us at the banding station and observe our bird banders in action. Ages 10 and up. Registration is required by 11a.m. Friday, May 5, at bit.ly/CoLRegistration. 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Celebrate Birds! Family Fun

The whole family is invited to join us at the Cicada Pavilion for games and activities that celebrate our feathered friends. This is a come-and-go activity, and you can join in at any time. Children of all ages are welcome. Free, and registration is not required.

10:30 a.m.-Noon Birding Basics

Our Birding Basics class will help you get started in this exciting activity, one of the fastest-growing pastimes in the country. No experience required. Bring binoculars if you have them; we will also have a limited number to loan. Ages 7 and up. Registration is required by 11a.m. Friday, May 5, at bit.ly/CoLRegistration. 2-4 p.m. Birding by Boat

Combine two popular activities – kayaking and bird watching! All skill levels are welcome; paddlers receive an introduction to kayaking on dry land before pushing off into the water.
