Texas Trees Foundation: JFK Grove Tree Planting - 7 Cities

Volunteers needed to plant seven tree groves in seven cities in memory of President John F. Kennedy. In an effort to offset the 301 million trees lost in 2011-2012 due to the drought, 2,000 trees are being planted as part of the Tree North Texas initiative. Palo Pinto Mountains State Park: Sneak Preview & Star Gazing Party - Strawn

Palo Pinto Mountains State Park will be hosting this free public event. Event go-ers will get a sneak preview of the new 3,331-acre park, which is under development with its opening date at least two years away.

Members of both the Texas Astronomical Society of Dallas and the Fort Worth Astronomical Society will be on hand with telescopes that attendees can use. Bring chairs, water, bug spray and your own telescope if you would like. Brisket sandwiches will be available and donations are welcome.

The Greater Fort Worth Sierra Club will meet at the Smokestack Restaurant in Thurber at 6 pm for dinner before the party. River Legacy: Texas Bumblebee Watch - Arlington

Presenter: Michael Warriner, invertebrate biologist for Texas Parks and Wildlife. Most press coverage on the bee decline is directed towards the European honeybee. Bumblebees have gone virtually unstudied despite their critical roles in agriculture and natural ecosystems. At this presentation, learn how to identify and record Texas Bumblebees to assess how their populations are faring. For ages 12 and up. Free.
