Bird & Nature Walks

Bird and nature walks, tree and plant identification, and more

DFW Urban Wildlife: Village Creek Drying Beds Meetup - Arlington

Chris Jackson, founder of DFWUrbanWildlife.com, leads this meetup. The plan will be to walk into the Village Creek Drying Beds as a group and then hike along the top of the berm that surrounds the property. We will cover most of the perimeter from the elevated vantage point the berm provides. There should be lots of great wildlife to see, and we will stop whenever we come across something interesting.

Twelve Hills Nature Center: Learn About Birds - Dallas

Twelve Hills Nature Center and Seed Preschool (along with Matilda, the bus) will present an afternoon of bird-themed activities, a family birding walk, and a visit from some winged creatures. This event coincides with the Great Backyard Bird Count and Project FeederWatch. You can observe many species of birds at Twelve Hills Nature Center and we will help you identify them. Free.

Ray Roberts Lake State Park: Star Party - Valley View

Come out and enjoy the stars! Brookhaven College’s astronomy classes will be setting up their telescopes and invite park visitors to look through them. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the dark skies of Johnson Branch with just your eyes, too! Make sure to dress warmly.

Please do not use your flashlights and lanterns in the Observing area. Flashlights with a red filter are okay.

Location: The Observing area will be located in the parking lot across from the Kid Fish Pond.

Park admission. $7/adults. Children 12 and under free.

Trinity River Audubon: Night Hike Owl Prowl - Dallas (Feb 8 and 9)

Visitors will take a guided night hike through the Great Trinity Forest and explore how our senses change with the setting of the sun. We will learn how nocturnal animals have adapted to the night life. Guests will search and call for the owl species that call Dallas home. The night will end roasting s’mores over the fire!

Held on both Friday and Saturday nights
