Bird & Nature Walks

Immerse yourself in a wonderful prairie at the junction of the Blackland and Post Oak savannah ecoregions. This will be a fall tour of Daphne Prairie, featuring opportunities to see festive Mt. Vernon and other aspects of the life and history of the region. 

8 a.m. - Metroplex folks will meet at the White Rock Lake Bathhouse in Dallas to carpool and head east

8:30 a.m. - Depart Dallas

Explore the nature trails surrounding the Science Center on a family-friendly guided Nature Walk. Nature Walks are usually held the fourth Saturdays of every month.

Learn about the birds who live at the Wetland on this walking tour. You will learn how to use binoculars, field guides, keep a life-list and what to look for when identifying birds. Binoculars and field guides are available for use.

Free with $5 admission. No pre-registration required.

This is a “bragging rights” competition, so bring your team, or bring yourself and you’ll be assigned to a team. Everyone needs to meet at 6:45 a.m. in the parking lot in front of Al's Hamburgers. Please call or text FWAS Scavenger Hunt leader Paula Channell ahead of time at 817-405-8132 to let her know who all is coming, and to ask questions if needed. There are no participation limits, and non-members as well as FWAS members are welcome. Team groups will depart from the parking lot at 6 a.m.

We will hike approximately 4-5 miles on a hilly trail. Meet at 7:30 a.m. sharp at the Service Center parking lot inside the Fort Worth Nature Center. After you enter the refuge and pay your entrance fee at the entrance booth, please take the first road to the right to reach the service center. A map is available from the entrance attendant, too. Park on the left side of the service center parking lot near the fence. 

If you have them, bring binoculars and field guide. Stroll along and learn with Dr. Billy Teels.

Groundwork Dallas will host the grand opening of Hines Park in West Dallas. This small park was once a neglected and litter-filled green space. Groundwork Dallas adopted the park over four years ago and has added a loop trail, rock garden, wildlife viewing platform, benches and fencing to make this a beautiful sanctuary in an industrial part of the city. 

Led by master birder Carrie Robinson. Arrive promptly at 7:30 a.m. for a field trip, approximately 2-3 hours, on foot at one of Dallas' prime birding locations. As part of trash pick-up with group "For the Love of the Lake," a few minutes have been added to the bird walks there on Sundays and pick-up materials will be provided.

Directions:

From Dallas take 635 to I20 to FM 740 (Forney)

Go south (right) on FM 740 to FM 2757 (immediately past service road)

Take a left on 2757

Then go to Kelly Rd, which will be the first road on the right (about 1.6 miles down on FM 2757).

On Kelly rd, Go 6/10 of a mile (((((measure 6/10 or you will miss it)))))

and take a left on a no name road.

There will be a land for sale sign, and then a no trespassing sign.
