Bird and nature walks, tree and plant identification, and more
Join Master Birder Reba Collins on a morning bird walk in Spring Creek Forest. We will look for our late fall residents. Dress for the weather. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring binoculars. If it has been raining, mud boots are appropriate.
We have a unique opportunity to hike and camp at an undeveloped new state park near Strawn Texas. This is truly primitive camping as there are no facilities, no water and no bathrooms. We will be the only people camping as the park is not open to the public yet. We will meet near the park entrance on Saturday morning. We will set up camp and go for a 3 or 4 mile hike. You will need to bring your own camping gear, water, food and cooking supplies. Please contact the trip leader Carla Egyed if you are interested in joining us at cegyed@sbcglobal.net.
The crawl highlights four unique urban nature parks: O.S. Gray Natural Area, the Wildscape in Veterans Park, Southwest Nature Preserve boarding Kennedale and River Legacy Park along the Trinity River.
Those visiting all four nature reserves will get some useful discount coupons to various local retailers. REI is promoting the Crawl at their stores in support of the Opt Outdoors campaign.
Arlington resident Jim Domke is coordinating partly motivated by how long it took for him to discover the nature areas inside Arlington.
Prepare for an adventure with anthropologist and educator, Linda Pelon and Texas Master Naturalist and nature explorer, Kristi Kerr Leonard on Piedmont Ridge Trail.
The educational walk will begin at the field to the north of Grover C. Keeton Golf Course. Park in golf course lot furthest north and look for Master Naturalist who will be clearly identifiable. Leaders will have left one car at Devon Anderson Park to take four drivers back to cars at the golf course lot and shuttle remaining hikers back to their cars.
Learn about the owls found in North Texas! Great kids activities! Raptor program at 10 a.m. followed by a guided hike through a Blackland Prairie. Fun for all ages. $5 adults, $3 for kids 3-12, under 3 is free.
Volunteers needed to help maintain trails at Clear Creek. This will include hiking, pruning and picking up trash. Volunteers will be lead by staff members at Clear Creek. We recommend volunteers wear pants and closed toed shoes. Registration requested.
Ben Sandifer will tell us about Dallas' Great Trinity Forest, the largest urban hardwood bottomland forest in the United States. And Ranjana Bhandari will talk about Liveable Arlington, a grassroots organization advocating for a healthier city.

Learn about creatures of the night (moths/owls) at this family-friendly event. We will attract and identify moths, investigate owl pellets and offer nature crafts and games. Our nature store will be open for shopping. Free for members, $5 for non-members, ages 2+.
Enjoy a nature walk, share tasty food and grow as a community working to liberate animals! Bring a small dish, fruit, or dessert etc. to share. Forks and plates will be provided, but "finger food" is encouraged (but not mandatory).
