Brookhaven College is celebrating National Moth Week with a special Windmill Garden event! Learn how native plant gardens attract pollinators. Special guest Sam Kieschnick, urban biologist with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, will follow with a discussion about moths their varieties and how to document them.
It’s recommended bring water, insect repellant and a flashlight. Wear closed-toed shoes, long sleeves and pants to avoid mosquito bites. Children ages 8 and older are welcome. We will meet at the Windmill Garden on the west side of campus, just west of parking lot P5.
Bat World MidCities brings BATS to the Sierra Club. The program will introduce us to these extraordinary creatures and the many ways in which they affect human life through lecture/discussion, artifacts and live native-species bats. Special attention is given to White Nose Syndrome, a fungal disease that is devastating bat populations throughout the U.S. Bat World MidCities is located in Cool, Texas near Mineral Wells for the rehabilitation of bats and has worldwide prominence. Don't miss this educational opportunity. And bring the kids!
There is always lots of varied and interesting urban wildlife to be found in and around this park. Josey Ranch Park has two small lakes, a hidden pond, a nice little creek, some woods and a great little wild flower area. Meet in the parking lot of the Carrollton Senior Center at 6:00pm, near the north end of the park. After we muster, we'll do the usual – walk and talk and take pictures.
Wayne Meyer from Austin College will show us how to associate sounds with words we know and train our ears to recognize which bird we are hearing. The program is sponsored by the Bluestem Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists and is free and open to the public.

Our area is home to a remnant population of this fascinating reptile. As one of the few top predators left in Texas they play an important part in keeping our watery habitats in balance.
