Lucy Harrell, well-known organic landscape design consultant, will present her “Fall Garden Make-Over” class designed to help gardeners find ways to freshen up their landscapes for the fall season. She’ll also give you a list of essential maintenance tasks and expert advice on how to handle common problems. Free.

GROW North Texas hosts panel discussion about the local farm to table movement and its prevalence in early childhood education.

Hands-on workshops taught by Kim Martin and Laurie Bostic of Barking Cat Farm. Learn what exactly permaculture is and how using the principles of permaculture can allow you to work smarter not harder when it comes to your garden and landscape. $25.

The conference offers sessions for farmers, local food enthusiasts, homesteaders, farm-to-table chefs, organic gardeners and sustainability activists. A full day of pre-conference workshops also is offered for small-scale farmers and livestock growers. The keynote will be presented by Frederick Kirschenmann, international leader in sustainable agriculture and president of Stone Barn Center for Food and Agriculture in New York.

This master composter class is certified by the State of Texas Alliance for Recycling (STAR). Class features hands-on composting and building a composting system at the New Hope Garden at the Austin Street Center in Dallas for the homeless.

Internationally known environmental education, Larry Wilhelm is the class instructor.  Larry created this program and has taught Master Composting classes for over 25 years. Larry’s passion for a sustainable environment and depth of experience makes the course informative, motivational and entertaining.

At the semiannual YardSmart seminar, attendees will hear from well-known local experts on topics such as winter vegetables, trees and composting. Attendees can question a panel of experts about gardening issues during the Ask the Experts session. A garden tour will follow at 1 p.m.
