Coppell Community Garden: Composting - Coppell

Turn your garbage into plant food! Instead of filling your trash can each week you can reduce the waste carried to landfills by composting more and throwing away less. This program teaches the compost­ing process, the different types and methods of composting, as well as how to compost and its importance.

Free.

The Biodiversity Education Center is located at Wagon Wheel Park. Park on the northwest side of the parking lot and follow signs to the BEC.

Note: Coppell Citizens can purchase a compost bin for $50 by contacting kcb@coppelltx.gov

Coppell Community Garden: Small Space Gardening - Coppell

Looking to add a little color or texture to your front entry or back patio? Container gardens can be a great way to give a little curb appeal or jazz up a back patio. This program teaches how to prepare and install a container garden. You will learn how to prepare the container, prepare the soil, and install a well-planned mix of annuals, perennials, and other colorful foliage plants.

Coppell Community Garden: Vegetable Gardening 101 - Coppell

February is the time to plant, so come gather all the do’s and don’ts you’ll need for the planting season! This is a great class for people new to gardening or that would like a refresher to start the season off strong. Free.

Please note that the BEC is tucked into the Coppell Nature Park located at Wagon Wheel Park. For closest access, park on the northwest side of the parking lot and follow green signs to the building. It is a short walk that takes less than five minutes.

Trinity Haymarket: Langstroth Hive Beekeeping Class - Dallas

Cost of class is $60 and includes 6 hours of training. From 9 a.m. till noon, class instruction at Trinity Haymarket. From 1 to 4 p.m., field time hands on experience at apiary in Rowlett. Christi Baughman will be the instructor. The Beekeepers handbook 4th edition is recommended and can be purchased at Trinity Haymarket for $30. Tickets for the class can be purchased on eventbrite.com or contact the store at 214 202-2163 to reserve your spot.

Texas Organic Farmers & Gardeners Association: Annual Conference - Mesquite

The 3-day conference will include a day of pre-conference workshops and farm tours, and two days of learning sessions that will cover diverse topics including pest management techniques, marketing and distribution strategies, livestock and crop management and food policy. The Friday night banquet will feature Mark Kastel of the Cornucopia Institute and a delicious locally-sourced dinner.

Association for India's Development: Organic Ag Expert - Plano

Annual Donor Appreciation Dinner for 25-year-old Association for India's Development features Revathi, a school teacher turned organic farmer from Tamil Nadu. Her work in the past 12 years has touched the lives of over one million farmers and has engaged in 22 disaster recovery activities on farmlands.  Starting with her work on Tsunami affected lands in India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia, Revathi continues to share her expertise with farmers whose precious lands need reclamation.

Redenta's: Fall Planting - Arlington & Dallas

Fall is an ideal time to garden in our region - not only is the weather great, but we can grow nice veggies through the season and into winter and most plants benefit from being planted now. In this class we will discuss why fall planting is healthy for perennials, shrubs, trees and most herbs. We will also talk about our planting techniques and soil preparation that we use to give plants the best start.
