Dallas Sierra Club: Liveable Arlington & Bees - Farmers Branch

The citizens' group Liveable Arlington advocates for and organizes toward a healthy, environmentally conscious, sustainable city. The group won the 2017 GreenSourceDFW Sustainable Leadership Award for Small Nonprofit. Liveable Arlington's founder, Ranjana Bhandari, will talk about past successes and future projects.

Dr. Larry Legg will explain variations between native bees and honey bees. Should bee an un-bee-table presentation. It is a free bee.

Dallas Sierra Club: Texas Wildflowers & Good Faith Impact - Farmers Branch

Wildflowers of Texas

Michael Eason will talk about Texas wildflowers and will explain the diversity of our flora and reasons behind this diversity. His presentation will include numerous photographs of Texas flora and their habitats. There will be images of plants that have rarely, if ever, been photographed, and the associated tales tracking down some of these plants. Michael will talk about new species in Texas and the rediscovery of a South Texas water lily (Nymphaea ampla), and will include examples of pollination biology, seed dispersal, and errors in collections.

Greater Fort Worth Sierra Club: Texas Smartscape Program - Fort Worth

Dottie Woodson will explain the Texas Smartscape Program and how to use it to design your home landscape. Texas SmartScape is helping to promote education on pollution prevention through efficient and effective water use and focuses on using native and adapted plants that grow well in our area – North Central Texas. Dottie is a former Tarrant Co. Agri-Life horticulturalist and currently is an Extension Program Specialist for Water Resource as well as contributor to local newspapers and TV programs. Potluck at 6:30 p.m.

Dallas Sierra Club: Arctic National Wildlife Refuge - Farmers Branch

See what the scenery and wildlife of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge are like, and what we will lose if it is opened to oil drilling. Free. Everybody is welcome.

Native Prairies Association of Texas, Fort Worth Chapter: Prairie Seekers Training - Fort Worth

Prairie Seekers is a citizen scientist program training volunteers to assess and map prairies for possible conservation funding opportunities. Data collected is submitted to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Texas Natural Diversity database – which tracks non-game species across the state.

UTA’s Institute for Sustainability and Global Impact: Regional Centre of Expertise in Education for Sustainable Development for North Texas - Arlington

What is a Regional Center of Expertise? In 2003, the United Nations University’s Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) launched its ESD project. This program designs and implements research and development activities through a multi-stakeholder global network of Regional Centers of Expertise (RCEs). RCEs prepare local leaders of tomorrow with the tools and information they need to make smart and sustainable choices for the future.
