Fort Worth Nature Center: A Monarch's Adventure - Fort Worth

New generations of monarch butterflies are embarking on a remarkable adventure to the mountain tops of Mexico during the month of October. Join us as we speak about their incredible migration as they head for their overwintering sites in the Oyamel forest of Michoacán. We’ll discuss various ways we can facilitate these amazing Lepidopteron travelers in the spring in our own backyard. Free with paid admission.

Downwinders at Risk: Root & Branch Organization Meeting - Dallas

If you could plan a conference for you and your peers to help train and motivate you as environmental activists in Texas, what speakers, events, forums, exhibits, panels, music, and/or art would you choose? 

Because of the elections, Downwinders has scheduled the next the next Root and Branch Revue for January 25-28, 2017. This time we're specifically focusing on "Citizen Science,"through the lens of Environmental Justice. 

Greater Fort Worth Sierra Club: Texas Railroad Commission Sunset Hearing - Austin

The Texas Railroad Commission governs all oil and gas activities including the building of pipelines within the state. The RRC is up for Sunset Review this coming legislative session. Sunset works by setting a date on which an agency is abolished unless the Legislature passes a bill to continue it. Sunset staff evaluates the agency and issues recommendations for positive change. The Commission considers the recommendations, hears public testimony and decides on a package of changes to bring to the full Legislature.

Dallas Sierra Club: Authors of 'Texas Environmental Atlas' - Farmers Branch

David Todd and Jonathan Ogren will introduce their environmental atlas, The Texas Landscape Project: Nature and People (Texas A&M Press 2016).  The atlas is a five-year effort that resulted in a compilation of some 40 chapters, 300 maps and 100 images regarding the conservation history of water, land, energy, air quality and public health in the state.  They also will focus on comments about local topics of special interest to Dallas Metroplex residents.  

Greater Fort Worth Sierra Club: Blackland Prairie Raptor Center - Fort Worth

Erich Neubert from the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center (http://www.bpraptorcenter.org/) will explain their work and bring several birds of prey to show at our meeting. The Blackland Prairie Raptor center is a non-profit organization dedicated to environmental preservation through public education and the conservation of birds of prey in their natural habitat. With non-releasable raptor ambassadors, BPRC introduces its visitors to the habitats of Texas and the unique characteristics of birds of prey.

Donation of $3 per person or more is requested to cover the cost of this program.
