Scoping the Dog Town - Ft Worth

The Prairie Dog Town is a very popular place for visitors to enjoy our resident Prairie Dogs. Come and join us for a better view of our Prairie Dogs with a spotting scope. You will certainly get a different view of these burrowing masters. Come and go as you please during this time. FREE (with paid admission). Current Admission fees: $5 Adults (13-64), $2 Children (3-12;under 3 FREE), $3 Seniors (65+), $1 Discount per person (with Military ID).

We will be following our synergizing format that we did last time. When people arrive you will be broken into three groups:

1) Home and Buildings 

2) Food and Gardening

3) Health and Lifestyle 

The first part of the meeting will be spent socializing with the people in your industry. There has been a great response from people spending time with others that are in their given fields.

After that you will draw a business card from the hat. You will then have a 5 minute 1-1 with that person and you will be giving their 30 second commercial! This was a HUGE success last time. Lots of FUN!

2011 Solar Car Challenge - Justin

The Solar Car Challenge originated in 1993, and has been recognized by "Technology & Learning" as one of the top ten education programs in the country. Our program teaches high school students how to build roadworthy solar cars, and then provides a safe environment to race. NTREG members will participate in various aspects of the race and related activities.

The 2011 Solar Car Challenge is a closed-track event held at the world famous Texas Motor Speedway. Come share the fun... meet the kids and see their solar cars. For more information, see the Calendar.

Straw Bale Building Workshop - Collinsville

Class Description

We will learn to construct a beautiful, natural, earth friendly, energy efficient home! Foundation, walls, windows, framing, and roof construction will be taught. Natural plasters will also be covered as well as poured adobe floors.

Costs: $250 for this 5-day Workshop. (Mail in payment by April 15th for a $25 discount.)

This includes breakfast & supper on the work days, camping fee, and all instruction needed to build a Straw Bale Structure.

Daily rate if you can't make the whole workshop is $60/day, which includes breakfast and supper.

Length of Time:  Workshop will last 5 days.  Depending on distance traveled 4-6 nights. 

Movie Screening of Gasland - Dallas

The Social Justice Ministry at the UU Church of Oak Cliff 
hosts a 1st Tuesday Film Festival each month and show documentaries and
dramas on a wide range of socially relevant issues, followed by
discussion. Films are always free, donations accepted.

On June 7th at 7pm we'll be showing Gasland, and have 4
environmental organizations that will be tabling and leading our
community discussion after the film.

The third annual “Polo for the Planet” will take
place on June 4, 2010 at the Prestonwood Polo & Country
Club<http://www.oakpointpolo.com/> in Oak Point, Texas.

Produced by the Ladies Polo Auxiliary of Texas, this

event promises families an evening of eco-friendly fun while enjoying the
sport of kings.

The evening will feature a “Taste of Green” Pavilion where attendees can
enjoy samplings of local, organic and/or sustainable foods and products.

Take an In-Depth Look at Solar Electricity/PV - Dallas

Jim Duncan, NABCEP, offers his extensive solar knowledge for this free
homesteading skill class from DFW Ecovillage. 

Solar PV is a complicated subject but Jim makes it easy to learn the basics
and beyond.

  • Batteries and battery maintenance;
  • Do-it-yourself knowledge, safety, and legalities; Different types of solar PV & costs, efficiencies, ease of installation;
  • What's new--including updates on reasonably priced new products, rebates, tax credits,legislation;
  • Q & A session.
