Road trips are fun in part because of the scenery along the way. Most people would agree that nature makes for better views.

A statewide nonprofit called Scenic Texas is working to ensure that the natural beauty along the state’s roadways is preserved.

Turkeys enjoy new home at Dallas County wildlife center

A pair of turkeys will be dining on a rich buffet of veggies and grain at a local sanctuary this Thanksgiving instead of being the main course, thanks to a Fort Worth woman. She’d raised chickens all her life and poultry husbandry was something of a family art.

DFW clean air group solarizes green renovation in Dallas

A DFW clean air group is enhancing a green renovation in Dallas by providing $300,000 in solar panels for the 1808 mixed-use development and GoodWork coworking space. This grant, from Downwinders at Risk’s Sue Pope Fund, marks the closure of a fund supporting North Texas clean air projects since 2006.

Standing Rock film screening in Dallas to include panel

Green Source DFW and the Memnosyne Institute will host a free screening of *Awake*, a film about Standing Rock protests, on Nov. 20 in Dallas. The event includes a panel discussion led by Mary Ann Thompson-Frenk, highlighting ongoing environmental and human rights activism against the Dakota Access Pipeline.

Enrollment open for DFW community organizing school

Downwinders at Risk's College of Constructive Hell-Raising in DFW, starting January 16, 2018, trains activists in social change strategies, historical context, and networking. Enrollment for 20 students is $200, with classes held bi-weekly at Meadows Conference Center, featuring veteran speakers and a focus on effective campaign initiation.

North Texas greenies gather for Green Source DFW Awards 

North Texas environmentalists celebrated achievements at the Green Source DFW Sustainability Leadership Awards, hosted by the Memnosyne Institute. Wendel Withrow led the event, announcing a partnership with Oak Cliff Earth Day and recognizing winners in various categories, including DCCCD, Recycle Revolution, and Liveable Arlington.

EARTHx growing exponentially with new name, new leader

EARTHx, formerly Earth Day Texas, grew from a Dallas event into the world's largest eco-expo. With a new name and CEO Steven Kornajcik, EARTHx aims to educate and provide solutions for environmental issues, hosting diverse initiatives like EARTHxFilm to attract both national and international attendees.

A chain link fence in the Bishop Arts District in Dallas recently got an eco-friendly makeover. The once drab border surrounding an apartment complex construction site at 305 Melba Street now sports a vibrant underwater scene made from discarded materials. As a result, a colorful seahorse, toothy shark, trailing seaweed, undulating waves and stylish school of fish is drawing smiles and compliments from local residents.

'The People's Architect' to be honored at Green Source DFW Awards
