UTA names first Chief Sustainability Officer

Meghna Tare was promoted to Chief Sustainability Officer at UTA, where she'll advance initiatives in recycling, water conservation, and community partnerships. Previously UTA's sustainability director, Tare's extensive experience includes roles in Dallas and academia. She aims to establish a regional center and advisory council to boost collaboration.

Gardening class aimed at North Texas newbies

The Newcomer’s Guide to Gardening in North Texas, hosted by McKinney and partners, offers free expert advice on gardening challenges like fire ants, clay soil, and erratic weather. Scheduled for January 12, it features six presentations by horticultural professionals aimed at North Texas gardening newcomers.

Noah Strycker set an audacious goal for in 2015: see half the world’s 10,000 bird species. The prior record of 4,341 did not quite hit the mark. When just 32, Strycker departed on Jan. 1 for Antarctica and by year’s end would surpass his goal, sighting 6,042 species. 

Carbon fee bill introduced in Congress

A bipartisan carbon fee bill, The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (H.R. 7173), was introduced in both the House and Senate, aiming to advance renewable energy and reduce emissions. Supported by Citizens' Climate Lobby, it imposes a carbon fee, redistributes revenues, and seeks broad support.
