Air monitoring training to be held in Dallas

Downwinders at Risk is hosting a free air monitoring training on Sept. 22 at GoodWork, Dallas. Attendees will learn to use portable monitors for the DFW Air Research Consortium. After three sessions, participants can borrow monitors for projects. The event involves classroom and field training.

You can get more bang for your donation buck during the annual North Texas Giving Day on Thursday, Sept. 20.

This is the 10th year for the online event, which encourages donations to charities in 20 North Texas counties - including dozens of environmental and animal welfare groups. 

TCEQ hearing on VW settlement to be held in Arlington

The Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance invites environmentalists to attend the TCEQ hearing on the Texas Volkswagen Settlement Plan in Arlington, addressing over $200 million from the VW emissions scandal. A pre-hearing conference call will be held on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. to prepare attendees.

Waco artists draw attention to climate change

The second annual Climate Change Art Exhibit in Waco runs through Sept. 29, featuring over 50 works depicting climate change impacts. Hosted by Waco Friends of Peace/Climate, this event aims to raise climate awareness through art. The reception on Sept. 15 offers entertainment and artist interactions.

Native plant sales fill fall calendar

Native plant sales in North Texas enrich fall gardening calendars, promoting native plants that thrive in the Texas heat and support local wildlife. The Native Plant Society of Texas, established in 1981, leads these efforts, with various Texas chapters hosting sales events throughout September and October.

Dallas Sierra Club launches speakers program

That’s why the local conservation group launched a new outreach speakers program to supply local schools, civic clubs, churches and nature groups with eco-friendly presentations.

North Texas tours showcase waterwise gardens

Can you have an attractive yard in DFW without running up your water bill? Two garden tours give North Texans a chance to check out the yards of folks who have mastered the art of sustainable gardening.

The city of Dallas pioneered the event, launching its annual Waterwise Tour 24 years ago. Plano began its own tour six years ago and both cities have transitioned from a spring event to a fall tour in October.
