Earth Day Dallas hopes to catalyze a "green" movement in North Texas by staging a two-day event on April 22nd and 23rd over several city blocks in the Dallas Arts District.  We anticipate 500 civic, corporate and non-profit participants engaged in an event that will be the biggest and best Earth Day celebration in this part of the United States.  Sponsors currently include:

This will be the seminal event in an ongoing movement to showcase green business and civic efforts that improve North Texas and the lives of North Texans.  Events will focus on entertaining, inspiring and educating attendees with various ways to think, work and live green by showcasing emerging green technology and providing eco-friendly activities.

    * Up to 50,000 visitors in the downtown Arts District (accessible by DART).

The Nature Conservancy is at the forefront of efforts to protect Earth’s oceans. This year, while we continue to conserve land and water across Texas, our work along the Gulf of Mexico has a new underlying urgency. The immediate need to invest in new and ongoing protection and restoration efforts in the gulf is clear.

Come and join us for a different type of Canoe Tour in the evening hours. This program will present new opportunities like
hearing beavers slap the water with their tails and seeing other wildlife, like deer and raccoons. Canoes, paddles and lifejackets are provided. Children must be 5 years or older. Parents must sign a liability waiver for minor children. Some previous experience recommended. Registration ends Tuesday preceding or when filled. Maximum - 12 participants. The Aransas Project: From the Hill Country to the coast, our way of life depends on freshwater flows from the Guadalupe River Basin. The ecosystems of the Aransas area are the indicator of how effectively we are managing the basin. Coastal communities are the first to feel the strain of mismanagement. As the recent natural drought has shown us through reduced rainfall, the basin is already over-allocated and its management must change to protect the interests of the entire river system, especially the freshwater inflows required to preserve the bays and estuaries. The record-breaking death toll of the whooping cranes in 2008/2009 coupled with the poor fishing season tell us that not enough freshwater is reaching the bays.

Explore nature at nightfall, as evening provides a unique opportunity to view animals that make the Nature Center home. Bring water and wear weather appropriate clothing. White Rock Lake Conservancy will host a citywide photo contest which will include several categories, such as children’s, amateur and professional. We will display 25-40 of the top photographs in an exhibit.

Last day to submit photos online is May 31.

Since 1999, the White Rock Lake Foundation has presented the annual Festival on the shores of White Rock Lake. A Dallas favorite fun event for the entire family! Children’s area, pet adoptions, boat rides, food, wine, art and music. Admission is $5.00 (Children under 12 free)
