Efficient irrigation is essential to sustainable landscapes. Drip irrigation is the most efficient irrigation method for applying water to your landscape.  In this class you will learn how to install a drip system or convert an existing system to drip.

Native and Adaptive Plants for a Water Conserving Landscape

Native and adaptive plants require less water, fertilizer and pesticides and create a beautiful sustainable landscape. This program will address how all future sustainable landscapes must conserve water. Plant selection and placement are key elements for conserving water in your landscape.

Water Conservation, Library Craft Project, Composting,  Wildlife, Watershed Protection, and more.

9:00 a.m. – 9:40 a.m.:  Managing Lawns During a Drought, Warren Tingley, Tarrant County Master Gardener

9:45 a.m. – 10:25 a.m.:  Backyard Composting, Donna Fry, Tarrant County Master Gardener

10:30 a.m. – 11:10 a.m.:  Drought Tolerant Landscaping with Native Plants, Callie Mitchell, Tarrant County Master Gardener

11:15 a.m. – 11:55 a.m.:  Vegetable Gardening, Lance Jepson, Tarrant County Master Gardener

Before you head out on the water, be sure to learn the PADDLING BASICS. This 2 hour program offers you an overview of information on Canoes, Kayaks and Stand-up Paddleboards.

The front lawn was the great symbol of the American dream of homeownership.  Connecting home to home from coast to coast, it was originally conceived as a common green.  But, now it’s become clear that it is more wasteful than useful.  Consuming vast amounts of resources including water and time and gives little in return.  This class is for those brave enough to step out of the common front yard box and into the world of the “edible” and useful front yard.

Hold On to Your Hats Eco Amigos....

The year is going to start off with a bang.....including a new environmental hazard which is imminently threatening our backyard (you have to come to find out about it).

Catch the scoop of what it is and how fast it is coming by joining me at Picasso's off Forest and Inwood (across from Jesuit's soccer fields) in Dallas this Thursday night at 6:30.

Smitty and I will be hot off an DMNews ed board meeting to expose this new threat to DFW's water and air quality....and we need your help.

When you get there, we'll also let you know what is going on with the Keystone Pipeline (it's still not over despite the President's decision), gas drilling, the Exide plant, and more.

Dallas Water Utilities Conservation is hosting a rain barrel making class taught by Dr. Dotty Woodson, Extension Program Specialist - Water Resources. This class and will provide participants the opportunity to construct a 55-gallon rain barrel as well as discuss installing an efficient irrigation system. The rain barrel is yours to take home!

Cost: $50.00 each barrel (covers cost of rain barrel and materials)

*Rain barrels measure 24 inches in diameter and 36 inches tall. Please bring a vehicle large enough to haul your rain barrel(s) home.
