Landscape designer and author Bonnie Reese of Beautiful Landscapes will be the speaker at both sessions. The first 100 attendees at each session will receive a copy of Ms. Reese’s book, “Common-Sense Landscaping.” Attendees can also enter a drawing for free bags of Green Sense organic fertilizer from Rohde’s Nursery and Nature Store.

Learn about green living from local experts and then tour the Environmental Education Center, Plano's only LEED Platinum certified building. 

At this 3rd Saturday Tour & Talk, attendees will learn how to reduce use of water, pesticides and fertilizers by landscaping with native and adapted plants.

Drip irrigation is 90% efficient, promotes healthier plants, and is usually inexpensive and easy to install. Come and learn about types of drip irrigation and the basics of how to install it at this free class. Registration of 8 people is required in order to hold the class.

Whether you’ve got lots of river time under your belt or have never set foot in a kayak, you’re welcome here! Kayak Power will provide equipment and instruction followed by a six-mile trip down the Elm Fork to a shuttle vehicle.

Come out and enjoy a bit of canoeing on your own along the West Fork of the Trinity River. Canoes, paddles and lifejackets provided. The second Saturday of every month is Second Saturday Shoreline Spruce-Up at White Rock Lake Park. Join the clean-up effort put on by For the Love of the Lake and our Adopt-A-Shoreline groups, never missing a month since April 1996!

Newcomers are welcomed and all meet between 8 to 9 a.m. at the FTLOTL office in Casa Linda Plaza, Buckner & Garland Road (facing Buckner). Come on out nice and early on Second Saturdays, have some refreshments, get some exercise, meet a great group of folks (if we do say so ourselves), and help us keep the shores of White Rock Lake clean and sparkling! Irrigation Quick Fixes 

Tuesday, May 8, 6-8 p.m., Southwest Branch Library, Dr. Dotty Woodson, Texas AgriLife Extension Service 

To work efficiently, an irrigation system requires, at the very least, an annual check-up. An inefficient system may waste as much as 50% due to minor problems that are easy to fix. This class will provide step-by-step instruction on how to perform an irrigation check up as well as how to make minor repairs and adjustments.  Information on how to select a licensed irrigation professional for larger more complicated jobs will also be presented.
