Bill Coleman will speak on  Marker Trees from a Texas Surveyor’s View.  He will explain how to look for clues that hint at the history of a landscape and address the ways trees are used as markers, not just by American Indians but also as references to boundary corners throughout the settlement and construction of our current civil infrastructure. Bill is a Professional Land Surveyor and a Geographic Information Systems Professional.

Join thousands of Fort Worth residents for the largest litter cleanup of the year — the 31st annual Cowtown Great American Cleanup.

Any Fort Worth location in need of cleaning is eligible as a cleanup site for the Cowtown Cleanup. Sign up to clean a greenbelt, a park, a roadway or any area of your choosing. For groups or individuals not sure where to go, consider joining an experienced group leader at one of the 10 prearranged Join-A-Group cleanup sites.

Join the group for its first workday on the NPAT project area at White Rock Lake. The group will be removing Queen Anne's lace and Johnson grass from native grasslands on Boy Scout Hill. Bring hand tools, work gloves, drinking water and sun gear. Meet at the small parking area and picnic structure at Boy Scout Hill.

The Recycling and Sustainability Fair is three-fold: drop off for hard-to-recycle items, education and community support. Several organizations will attend that will be taking materials for recycling or reuse. It is also an event to educate the public about what and how to recycle, air quality, stormwater quality and the effects of single-use disposable bags. The event will also support Daggett Montessori #GreenTeam and #PTA in its challenge to win $500 to $5,000 through the RecycleBank #CleanGreenFW Challenge. Attendees can also sign up for RecycleBank at the fair. 

Please bring your favorite gardening tools, work gloves or litter picker upper.

Wear appropriate clothing for the weather and for working in a natural area 

(long pants, long sleeves, sturdy shoes, hat).

Water and snacks will be available.

This month we will be repairing our mulch trails, staining park benches and grooming our Butterfly Garden. Please bring your favorite gardening tools, work gloves, or litter picker upper.

O.S. Gray Natural Area has no restroom facilities, but Kroger is nearby.

This will be an informal yet intentional meditation. We will begin with a brief invocation and greeting and then dedicate time for walking and contemplation accompanied by the sound of medicine gongs and bells. We will complete our gathering with a brief closing circle. Come for the full two hours or just to walk your journey as you need to.  

The labyrinth is a walking meditation, a path of prayer and an archetypal blueprint where psyche meets Spirit. It has only one path that leads from the outer edge in a circuitous way to the center.There are no tricks to it and no dead ends. Unlike a maze where you lose your way, the labyrinth is a spiritual tool that can help you find your way.

 The Texas Environmental Leadership Awards recognize true stewards of environmental change in Texas – individuals, communities, organizations, and businesses developing and maintaining programs involving recycling, composting, sustainable materials management, public education and outreach, special event recycling – and so much more. Applications are due Friday, August 28th by 5pm. Award winners will be honored at a special ceremony in Austin in November.
