Earth Day Dallas features two days of engaging exhibits, compelling speakers, music, entertainment, food and fun for everyone. Join us April 21-22, 2012 in Fair Park to see how you can make a difference.

Celebrate Earth Day at this fun festival with exhibits, speakers, films, music, food & more focused on making a positive impact on our environment.

The heart of the festival is the Eco Expo, and exhibitors will use their presence to promote their achievements as green leaders, and teach attendees how to take environmentally responsible action by better utilizing available resources, switching to eco-friendly products, or joining their organizations.

In addition to the Eco Expo, attendees will have a number of educational entertainment options, which will include:

Volunteer Fair - Dallas

 Volunteer Fair in Dallas, Thursday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

The Senior Source, 3910 Harry Hines Blvd, Dallas [ close to downtown Dallas, near the Sammons Center for the Arts and the Infomart]

Explore more than 60 nonprofits, causes and unique service opportunities in North Texas to utilize your strengths and find fulfillment through a customized volunteer match. This interactive event is designed to engage your individual talents, personal interests, and availability with organizations who are impacting our community and the world.

Texas is a big state. In order to provide an effective religious response to our environmental challenges, we need local teams on the ground in cities and regions across the state.

Panel Featuring Susan Hoff of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, Regina Nippert of the Center on Communities and Education at Simmons, Todd Williams of Commit!, and Danny Henley of the Zero-to-Five Funders Collaborative

Stanford Social Innovation Review’s 2010 feature, “Collective Impact,” asserts that large-scale change requires broad, cross-sector coordination. Dallas is home to several such programs who share the ambitious mission of improving student educational achievement. DSVP will assemble a stellar panel of local thought leaders, including Susan Hoff of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, Todd Williams of Commit!, Regina Nippert of the Center on Communities and Education at Simmons, to discuss how this model is impacting our region.

Author of “Disrupting Philanthropy: Technology & the Future of the Social Sector” and “Creating Philanthropic Capital Markets,” Lucy Bernholz is a noted analyst of the philanthropic industry. She consults with corporations and individuals who want their giving to be impactful and serves as a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. Her blog, Philanthropy 2173, has been called a “philanthropy game changer” by The Huffington Post and was named a “Best Blog” by Fast Company Magazine.

Urban Permaculture Film Screening - Rockwall

Geoff (Jeff) Lawton has made an excellent teaching DVD. He covers everything from sustainable strategies for urban gardening to water tanks to aquaponics to rocket stoves to mini-swales to urban design and more! Just as Permaculture is intensive gardening, this video is intensive teaching. Since 1985, Lawton has undertaken a large number of jobs consulting, designing, teaching and implementing Permaculture systems in over 30 different countries around our planet. He certainly knows his Permaculture and how to teach it.

Introductory Hide Tanning Workshop

Honoring the animal that has been hunted was very important to all native cultures. Nothing is wasted, that way the animal is honored. This class will teach you how to turn a deer hide into Buckskin for clothing and crafts and also to preserve pelts from various animals. Topics covered: obtaining a hide skinning wet scrape verses dry scrape making rawhide making buckskin brain tanning waterproofing by smoking how to make articles of clothing from your finished product what you can make out of rawhide

Sustainable & Heat Hardy Series: Water Right Workshop - Dallas

This year, we are proud to bring you our NEW Sustainable & Heat Hardy Series of programs featuring NHG and local experts discussing how you can garden with less water and follow your city’s water guidelines. By planting the right plants, learning to water and set your irrigation system properly, you will be using your resources efficiently and save money. Look for programs beginning in January and taking you all the way through the heat of summer. We’ll offer both full programs and 20 minute Pop Ups so you can pick the programs right for you.Series will include design workshops, consultations, and more.
