Sierra Club Meeting - Ft Worth

General Meeting of the Greater Fort Worth Sierra Club

Tolbert Greenwood, a Fort Worth Sierra Club member and avid hiker and camper, will speak on Big Bend National Park and share his camping experiences and efforts to preserve this park. Tolbert is former Texas Sierra Club Outings Chair and a member of Friends of Big Bend National Park. He has camped in this park for over 40 years and led many Sierra Club trips there as well.

The third Wednesday of each month we share conservation news, outings info and enjoy a presentation by a guest speaker. Speaker will be followed by refreshments, club business and announcements.

Free and open to the public.

"Growing Green" Vocal Trash Concert - Cedar Hill

Come celebrate Cedar Hill “Growing Green” at the Music in the Park Concert.

The concert will feature the nationally acclaimed “Vocal Trash”.  This is a high energy band that puts the fun into recycling and uses instruments recycled from trash.

The admission is free.

Besides great music, there will be environmental booths and demonstrations, recycling information, the Adopt-A-Park/Adopt-A-Trail kick-off, food and opportunities to learn how Cedar Hill is “Growing Green”.

 On-site paper shredding will be available for $5.00 per box* from 6:00-7:00pm. Bring your documents in boxes, bags, whatever you like and there is no need to remove paper clips, staples, etc. Any quantity welcome! *A standard box 15"x12"x10" or Kitchen Trash Bag holds 35 lbs.

Bring your lawn chairs, come early, celebrate “Green” and enjoy the concert!

Trash Makeover Fashion & Art Reuse Challenge - Austin

TCE is throwing an exciting party at Highland Mall in Austin to celebrate Texas Campaign for the Environment’s 20 years of protecting our air, water, land and health – and you’re invited to join the party or become a sponsor! The celebration will be TCE’s first-ever Trash Makeover: Fashion Reuse Challenge. Judged by a celebrity panel with Liz Watson serving as emcee, local designers will compete with each other by creating fashions comprised of recycled materials. The VIP reception begins at 6 pm and the main event is from 7 to 9 pm in a former clothing store on the lower level of the mall.

The Trash Makeover will be a Zero Waste event - at least 90% of discards will be reused, recycled or composted.

Sweet Potato Gleaning - Mineola

Come join the Gleaning Network of Texas for sweet potato gleaning! We will gather the sweet potatoes left in the field, bag them up, and distribute them to a wide range of food assistance programs. Look for more information as we get closer to this event!

The Gleaning Network of Texas is a nonprofit, grassroots organization whose goal is to use our state’s existing surplus fresh produce resources to help alleviate hunger and improve nutrition for food-insecure Texans.

The Network brings together growers, volunteers, and service agencies to provide food for the hungry from fruits and vegetables left in the field after the harvest and other unutilized supplies.

Sustainable Leaders Roundtable - Dallas

Sustainable Leaders Roundtable is a group that was started in June to bring together the leaders of all of the green and sustainable groups in the Metroplex.  Over 50 different organizations, including non-profits, governments, business groups, advocacy organizations, and universities are members.

North Texas Renewable Energy Group (NTREG) announces the  DFW Solar Home Tour, October 1st, 2011  www.dfwsolarhometour.org

The 2nd annual DFW Solar Home Tour is a part of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) National Solar Tour www.nationalsolartour.org . It offers the public the opportunity to tour innovative green homes and buildings and learn how homeowners and businesses can use renewable energy, energy efficiency, and other sustainable technologies.
