Texas A&M AgriLife: Texas Water Star Conference - Fort Worth

How to conserve water in the urban environment is the focus of conference. While aimed at the irrigation specialist, talks include landscape design and management and plant selection for water conservation, which are of interest to the home gardener. The conference qualifies for CEU credits. City of Arlington: Backyard Composting and Irrigation 101 - Arlington

9 a.m.: Backyard Composting

Arlington Master Composters will demonstrate how to improve the quality of your soil and spend less time and money fertilizing and watering your landscape. 

10 a.m.: Irrigation 101
Arlington Utilities will discuss the basic parts of an irrigation system, typical maintenance issues, water scheduling techniques and water efficient technologies to save water and money.

North Texas Renewable Energy Group: What Cities are Doing to Support Environmental Sustainability - Irving

The presenter will be Fran Witte, Sr. Community Outreach Coordinator, city of Irving, specializing in environmental education and program development.

Ms. Witte is the Secretary for Women in the Environment and is a member of the North Texas Corporate Recycling Association (NTCRA), the Metroplex Recycling Coordinators Roundtable, North American Association for Environmental Education, National Community Gardening Association, TOFGA (Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association) and the NTREG Yahoo Group. Ms. Witte is also member of the Irving's Greater Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Green Business Council and serves as a city of Irving Radiological ("RAD") team member.

Arlington Conservation Council: UTA Sustainability Director Meghna Tare - Arlington

Meghna Tare, the director of the UTA Office of Sustainability, will speak about ways UTA is striving to become a leader in campus sustainability through greening facility operations, championing innovative research, encouraging student projects, promoting an environmentally and sustainability focused curriculum and sponsoring public service.
