Dallas Sierra Club: Howard Garrett on Nontoxic Pest Control & Related Water Savings - Farmers Branch

Guest Howard Garrett, the Dallas-based organic gardening expert says the first step of natural pest control is the basic organic program and resulting healthy soil and plants. Healthy, non-stressed plants don't attract pests nearly as much as do plants that are under stress from the use of high-nitrogen, salt fertilizers and toxic chemical pesticides. Understanding the protection and use of beneficial insects and other living organisms is also a major part of successful pest control. When direct pest control is needed, there are "soft" choices that work well.

Association for India's Development: Organic Ag Expert - Plano

Annual Donor Appreciation Dinner for 25-year-old Association for India's Development features Revathi, a school teacher turned organic farmer from Tamil Nadu. Her work in the past 12 years has touched the lives of over one million farmers and has engaged in 22 disaster recovery activities on farmlands.  Starting with her work on Tsunami affected lands in India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia, Revathi continues to share her expertise with farmers whose precious lands need reclamation.

Friends of Southwest Nature Preserve: Local Historical Trees - Arlington

Wes Culwell will discuss one of his pet projects – identifying and obtaining recognition for local historic trees in the Tarrant area. In addition, he will provide us with some of his observations about the trees that can be found at the Southwest Nature Preserve.

Wes Culwell is one of the few Board-Certified Master Arborists in Texas. He is an Aggie, a Landscape Horticulturist and owner of HortiCare involved in improving plant health care.
