Monarch Butterflies are here! The fall migration is on the way! Join a ranger to learn all about these magnificent insects and their lifecycles, and play a fun game to see how you’d do as a monarch.
Discover what you can do to support conservation of the Monarch butterfly and learn simple steps to create a Monarch Waystation for your landscape. Carol Clark, Monarch Watch Conservation Specialist, will discuss plant choices, design considerations, installation and share garden plans. We'll be leading walks through the late summer blooms, including some of Texas’ true ‘tall grasses’! The 1,400-acre Clymer meadow contains one of the last remnants of the Blackland Prairie, an ecosystem that once stretched from the Texas coast to southern Manitoba. Our wildflower tour will bring you up close and personal different types of rare prairieland and expose you to a variety of rare plants. Cameras, sunscreen, hat, long pants, hiking boots, bottled water, sack lunch and bug spray are all recommended. Pack a picnic lunch and a beverage, and bring the whole family!

Mark Hill of Horizon Distributors will discuss why Corn Gluten Meal needs to be applied in the fall to prevent weeds in the spring He’ll also cover fertilization and other essential fall activities. Lucy Harrell, well-known organic landscape design consultant, will present her “Fall Garden Make-Over” class designed to help gardeners find ways to freshen up their landscapes for the fall season. She’ll also give you a list of essential maintenance tasks and expert advice on how to handle common problems. Free.
Fall plant sale will be held Friday, Oct. 6, from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Find rare native pollinator-friendly plants that are hard to find in local nurseries but are this plant sale’s specialty. Members’ Plant Sale allows you to shop before the Saturday rush. Become a member and shop a day early and get a discount on your purchase.
