Valley House Gallery & Sculpture Garden: Trees Opening Reception - Dallas

This group exhibition is inspired by the Greek Proverb, “A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.” The exhibition will feature work by 40 artists, benefiting the Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center.

A Passion for Texas Native Trees Talk by Tary Arterburn, Principal, studioOustide, will be held  Aug. 31, at 7 p.m.

Exhibit runs through Sept. 16.

BRIT: Grasses, the Rodney Dangerfield of the Vascular Plant World - Decatur

Grasses, often the most common plants in any given landscape, are also some of the most overlooked, underappreciated and misunderstood members of the plant world. Grasses, however, are what makes the prairie a prairie. They are an essential component of savannas, and they even occupy the understory of woodlands and forests. This workshop will provide an introduction to the world of grasses that are found in the prairies, savannas and woodlands of North Texas. The focus will be on field identification of grasses by their distinguishing physical characteristics.
