In Texas, the condition most gardeners find difficult to design for is the shade. This presentation will give you a starter palette that will highlight plants to bring color to your shady spot.
NPAT hosts a field trip and dinner at the Dixon Water Foundation’s Leo Ranch Betty and Clint Josey Pavilion.
The afternoon field trip starts at 1 p.m., led by botanical experts Bill Carr and Lisa Bellows.
A catered dinner at the Clint Josey Pavilion will follow from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. We will share updates on the year at NPAT and offer a chance to mingle with other prairie enthusiasts. $45.

Volunteers needed for a family-friendly volunteer trash cleanup and seedball making day in Harold Simmons Park!. Meet at the Trinity Overlook Park at Commerce Street and Beckley Avenue.
The Great Seed Bomb will be leading the Seedball Workshop where you can get your hands dirty and make native grass and wildflower seedballs that will be dispersed in different areas along the Trinity River Corridor. Sowing seedballs helps to reinforce habitats vital to the migration of monarchs, the well-being of bees, and adds beauty to our green spaces.

We should all be using native plants in our landscapes. But information on natives is limited. Even more daunting is determining which of them will actually thrive in a shaded location. This presentation illustrates and discusses in detail the surprising number of our native species adapted to these challenging conditions.
$15. Class price includes general admission to Texas Discovery Gardens. Stay after the class to explore our two-story Butterfly House and the 7.5 acre garden full of native and adapted plants.
Michael Eason, freelance botanist, author and photographer, will speak on plants in the Chihuahuan Desert region of West Texas, from Val Verde County to El Paso, will focus on species with interesting seed dispersal mechanisms and pollination biology. He’ll also address the topography, geology and climatic influences that make this region so diverse and online and print resources for plant identification.
Help volunteers from the Native Prairies Association of Texas' Fort Worth chapter salvage native wildflowers and grasses on a lot, behind the Hulen Home Depot, being developed for a new Tanglewood elementary school. Take some back your own gardens!
