Volunteers needed to plant seven tree groves in seven cities in memory of President John F. Kennedy. In an effort to offset the 301 million trees lost in 2011-2012 due to the drought, 2,000 trees are being planted as part of the Tree North Texas initiative. REAL School Gardens creates learning gardens in low-income schools and trains teachers how to use them to improve student engagement and academic achievement. Once a year, a few of the partner schools are selected to plant, grow and harvest organic herbs and vegetables for the annual Schoolyard Harvest Dinner. Using the organic produce grown at the schools, GRACE restaurant hosts an elegant wine dinner, giving supporters the chance to meet the young growers, their teachers and share the harvest.

How to conserve water in the urban environment is the focus of conference. While aimed at the irrigation specialist, talks include landscape design and management and plant selection for water conservation, which are of interest to the home gardener. The conference qualifies for CEU credits.
