Japan and Texas Photographs - From the Fridge to the Fire: Wildlife Contrasts
This photography presentation will highlight the contrasts between the chilly winter months in
Japan and the baking hot climate of South Texas, and how the resident wildlife copes in each
of these harsh environments. Jeremy Woodhouse is an outdoor photographer based in Dallas,
Texas, whose photos have appeared in print all over the world. He has received numerous
photography awards, and his images have been included in exhibitions at the Smithsonian in
Washington, D.C., the Dallas Museum of Natural History, and the Natural History Museum in

International Migratory Bird Day Festival at Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center

Celebrate our migratory birds and learn more about what you can do to help them during their amazing journey across the Americas. This event features fun activities for all ages, including kids’ crafts and activities, a live falcon, guided hikes, and a warbler identification class.

The local Texas Campaign for the Environment office is hosting follow up meetings about the gas drilling issue  in Dallas. TCE is also launching a statewide campaign to urge Wal-mart to start a take back recycling program for old and obsolete electronics and this will be a forum to discuss this program. Electronic waste is toxic waste (it contains lead, mercury and many hazardous chemicals) that doesn’t belong in D/FW landfills – which are often situated close to area waterways. TCE is thus urging Walmart to match the recycling program Best Buy is offering in their retail stores nationwide, and we launched a “social media action”.

The DFW Truck Farm 5k Fun Run will take place on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at the Earth Day Dallas Festival at Fair Park in Dallas, Texas.

The first annual 5K Fun Run is a non-competitive event (no chip timing) in which participants can run, walk, jog, or skip to the finish line!  This is a family event and strollers are  welcome!  For this year's fun run, we have designed a course full of farming-inspired challenges to complete before you cross the finish line!

You will have farm challenges along the way around the race course, you might harvest a seed, plant a seed, save water, or pollinate a flower.  Whatever the challenge you are faced with you will have a good ol' time completing it!

This will be a free screening of the documentary King Corn at Westside Unitarian Universalist Church in Fort Worth. (The following is taken from the website of the documentary King Corn)

King Corn is a Peabody-winning feature documentary about two friends, one acre of corn, and the subsidized crop that drives our fast-food nation. In the film, Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis, best friends from college on the east coast, move to the heartland to learn where their food comes from. With the help of friendly neighbors, genetically modified seeds, and powerful herbicides, they plant and grow a bumper crop of America’s most-productive, most-subsidized grain on one acre of Iowa soil. But when they try to follow their pile of corn into the food system, what they find raises troubling questions about how we eat—and how we farm.
