White Rock Lake Cleanup - Dallas

Walk and talk while picking up trash and recyclables at the Sierra Club's adopted section of White Rock Lake Park. Area is a prairie restoration area, so there are always birds and wildflowers. Gloves, trash bags, etc. provided. Brunch after. Meet at Love of the Lake office, NE corner Garland Rd and Buckner Blvd, Dallas. Look for people drinking free juice and coffee. Women in the Environment: Lady Bird Johnson Middle School Tour - Irving

Women in the Environment is hosting is this tour of the only net-zero energy school in Texas and the largest net-zero energy school in the U.S. Meet at Spring Creek Barbeque, 3514 West Airport Freeway, irving, for lunch at 11:45. Meet at the Lady Bird Johnson Middle School, 3601 Pioneer Drive, Irving, at 1:15 p.m. Parking is in the front (south side) of the school. Enter through the main doors on the south side of the building. All visitors must bring valid photo ID (drivers license) to be processed through the school’s security system prior to the tour. Kennedale's Urban Bird Treaty - Arlington

The Urban Bird Treaty/Urban Conservation Treaty for Migratory Birds is a U.S. Fish and Wildlife grant program that works with cities to promote conservation of migratory birds through education, conservation and habitat improvement.

Rachel will tell us how Kennedale was awarded the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service grant (one of only 2 cities in Texas and less than 20 across the U.S.) and about the various aspects of their program. She'll talk about Kennedale's accomplishments with the program as well as adaptations needed to reach the program's goals….and how this information might help other groups that might want to learn from their experience.

Indian Marker Trees - Dallas

Hosted by the Dallas Historic Tree Coalition. Steve Houser, a consulting arborist for more than 30 years and past DHTC President, will talk about Indian Marker Trees. He will explain what a marker tree is and explore the controversy about their existence, who proclaims them to be real, and other history on the subject. We will also learn about other groups in the country that are researching these trees, and what DHTC is doing in our region. You will learn the typical shapes seen in these trees, and will hear about the trees we are finding in Texas. Reserve a space at info@DHTC.org no later than Monday, Oct. 15. Dinner for Tandy Hills Park - Fort Worth

Michael Fazi is raising funds for his Eagle Scout project by hosting a Spaghetti Dinner. Dinner is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

All proceeds from the dinner and all donations will go to support the construction of an outdoor classroom in Tandy Hills Natural Area. (See http://tandyhills.org/)

The eight new benches will be used for the Kids On the Prairie Program, which introduces city school kids to the wonders of nature.

Almost Friday Hike - Fort Worth

Please join the Greater Fort Worth Sierra Club for an Almost Friday hike on the Trinity Trail. Meet at 6 PM at the parking lot just south of the Hoffbrau Steakhouse before the Trinity River Bridge on University for an evening hike of 3-4 miles. This trail is located just off University Drive on the west side, south of I-30 and University Dr. exit. If you get to the zoo, turn around. Bring water and snacks and comfortable shoes and clothing appropriate for warm weather. Please no dogs. Hike cancelled if raining.
