Population Media Center: Conference Call regarding World Population Day

Population Institute president Bob Walker will be the guest. Bob will be talking about the 25th anniversary of World Population Day, July 11, focusing on why population still matters and why family planning and gender equality are essential for a healthy, resilient and sustainable world. He will also let us know about Population Institute's upcoming factoid campaign that will accompany this year's World Population Day.

"Vision North Texas 2050: How Local Communities and Businesses Can Position North Texas for a Fiscally and Environmentally Sustainable Future."
 
Presentor Kevin Shepherd is a principal and co-founder of Verdunity, Inc., a Dallas-Fort Worth-based consulting firm specializing in planning and design of sustainable communities and infrastructure.  

Shepherd will present he results and findings of the multi-year planning and visioning effort that culminated in the release of the award-winning Vision North Texas 2050 Plan. He will also discuss current global and national trends, highlight a few projects from North Texas that are incorporating new approaches and offer some suggestions on how cities can position themselves to stay competitive in recruiting and retaining businesses and residents.

Greenbelt Alliance of North Texas: GreenFest on the Greenbelt - Denton

This regional event will celebrate the Ray Roberts Greenbelt through experiential outdoor activities, live music and good food. Attendees can test their skills at archery, climbing, kayaking, biking, and geo-caching; view demonstrations by historians and craftsmen of the Cross Timbers eco-region; or take a carriage ride down the Greenbelt Trail. Kids will enjoy birds of prey and reptile exhibits, pony rides, Backyard Bass competition and an inflatable obstacle course and slide. GreenFest will emphasize outdoor fun, respect for nature and boating and water safety.

Greenfest 2014 is organized by the Greenbelt Alliance of Denton County, together with Texas Parks and Wildlife and the City of Denton. Proceeds will go toward reopening the equestrian trail between Highways 428 and 455, repairing Greenbelt restrooms, installation of a wetland viewing deck and trail, if approved by the USACE, and support of the Greenbelt Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to stewardship of the Lewisville/Ray Roberts Greenbelt.
