Greater Fort Worth Sierra Club: Grand Canyon Trip - Fort Worth

Dale Edelbaum of the Dallas Sierra Club will share stories and photos of his 17-day dory boat trip down the Grand Canyon, covering 221 miles from Lees Ferry to Diamond Creek. Along the way, the river ranged from smooth drifting to enormous rapids. Dale camped along the river and hiked many side canyons. His pictures are enchanting and set to music. The speaker is followed by refreshments and announcements.

We will car pool from Bass Pro Shop, 5001 Bass Pro Drive, Garland, TX 75043. From I-30 East, take Exit 62 and meet in the center of the parking lot by the used boats. Look for pewter-colored Chevy Suburban. We will leave by 7:30 am, arrive at the park by about 10 am, leave the park around 3 pm, and return by 5:30 pm.

Daingerfield State Park is on the Mississippi flyway, and often sees good Broadwing Hawk migration numbers during the last two weeks of September. Daily counts have been as high as 3,500. This is annual event for Tyler Audubon, and we have assurance from them that we are welcome. There is a $4 per person admission fee to the park. Participants should bring lunch, snacks, beverages and lawn chairs. Daingerfield is listed as #125 in the Texas Prairies & Piney Woods-East Wildlife Trails map, part of the Lake O' The Pines trail. In case of inclement weather, trip will be rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 27.
