Master Composting: Bokashi - Plano

Tired of scraping dinner scraps down the drain? Wondering if there is a safe way to recycle all of your food waste into a nutritious soil amendment? Let us teach you bokashi - a traditional Japanese fermentation practice that will allow you to compost even meat and dairy leftovers indoors.

All About Composting - Plano

Is your yard work piling up? Let it! Learn the basics of turning that garden debris into garden gold through composting. We cover what to put in, what to leave out, and how to mix, moisten and manage your way to successful soil enrichment. We'll also teach you to use specialized red worms to compost your food waste and create a fertile soil amendment for plants.

Food Waste Composting - Plano

Don't let the worms crawl in and the worms crawl out -- put them to work! We'll teach you to use specialized red worms to compost your food waste. These use their waste as a fertile soil amendment to benefit your plants. Learn to set up and maintain a worm bin, and to harvest and use the worm castings.

Homestead Open House - Lewisville

The Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area is home to several historic structures, most notably the Minor-Porter Log House, which dates to about 1869. Completely restored and furnished with all the trappings of everyday frontier life, the log house gives LLELA visitors a window on early Denton County history. Knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand to guide visitors through the structures and answer questions in this informal tour. Visitors are welcome to arrive at any time during the open hours and tour at their own pace.

There is no additional fee for this activity beyond regular admission to LLELA ($5/person; children age 5 years and under free).

Nature Walk - Lewisville

Life at LLELA is always changing. Every season brings new animal signs, different blooms, or birds nesting, wintering, or winging their way north and south. Come explore with us on the Cicada Trail, the Cottonwood Trail, the Redbud Trail, or the Bittern Marsh Trail.

All ages are welcome. There is a $2 program fee for the walk, in addition to the regular gate fee ($5/person).

Bird Walk - Lewisville

Over 270 species of birds have been recorded in the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area’s forests, prairies, and marshes. Bird watchers of all skill levels are welcome to join our master birders as they guide visitors to birding locations at LLELA. Some of the best spots are not normally available to the public, outside of a scheduled tour.

Ages 10 and up. There is a $2 program fee for the bird walk, in addition to the regular gate fee ($5/person).

Spring Break - Morning Stroll - Fort Worth

Come and join us for an early morning hike around the Nature Center. Our goal is to see animals that are beginning their day and maybe a few stragglers that  are coming in from the night. This is a great opportunity to see one of our beautiful bucks or some of our curious winter birds.

MAXIMUM OF 15 FOR HIKE. $5 (with paid admission)/MEMBERS FREE.

Spring Break - Canoe Fest - Fort Worth

Come out and enjoy a bit of canoeing on your own along the West Fork of the Trinity River. Canoes, paddles and lifejackets provided. Children must be 5 years or older and accompanied by a parent or guardian. Parents must sign a liability waiver for minor children. Meet at Big River Parking Lot. Event will be cancelled if unsafe weather conditions exist. Please call Hardwicke Interpretive Center Wednesday
(14 th) morning to confirm event’s availability.

FIRST COME FIRST SERVED. $5 per person (with paid admission)/MEMBERS $3.
