Dogwood Canyon - Free First Thursday - Cedar Hill

Located 16 miles south of downtown Dallas in Cedar Hill, Dogwood Canyon is part of the White Rock Escarpment. Nowhere in North Texas can one find a greater variety of rare species than in Dogwood Canyon. Plants and animals from east, west and central Texas converge here, making the Canyon the only place in the world where one can find the Black-chinned Hummingbird of west Texas nesting in the flowering dogwood tree of east Texas.

Spring is just around the corner and now is the time to make sure that your irrigation system that's been hibernating all winter is operating at peak efficiency. Just like anything else, your irrigation system needs to be maintained. Since outdoor irrigation accounts for up to 60% of water use in the spring and summer we need to make sure it is functioning correctly as to not waste a single drop.

Landscape designer and author Bonnie Reese of Beautiful Landscapes will be the speaker at both sessions. The first 100 attendees at each session will receive a copy of Ms. Reese’s book, “Common-Sense Landscaping.” Attendees can also enter a drawing for free bags of Green Sense organic fertilizer from Rohde’s Nursery and Nature Store.

3rd Saturday Tour: Texas SmartScape® Workshop - Plano

Learn about green living from local experts and then tour the Environmental Education Center, Plano's only LEED Platinum certified building. 

At this 3rd Saturday Tour & Talk, attendees will learn how to reduce use of water, pesticides and fertilizers by landscaping with native and adapted plants.

DIY Drip Irrigation - Plano

Drip irrigation is 90% efficient, promotes healthier plants, and is usually inexpensive and easy to install. Come and learn about types of drip irrigation and the basics of how to install it at this free class. Registration of 8 people is required in order to hold the class.
