City of Arlington: Make a Rain Barrel - Arlington

Residents with a residential Arlington Water Utilities account can attend a “Make a Rain Barrel” class at EcoFest Arlington and leave with their very own rain barrel. The reduced fee covers the cost of the 55-gallon rain barrel and materials.

Register today to learn how to design and install a rainwater harvesting system at your home. A total of 125 rain barrels will be given away and there is a limit of one rain barrel per residence. $10 for Arlington residents. $40 for nonresidents if space available.

Texas Historic Tree Coalition: Comanche Empire & the Travels of Dr. Ferdinand Roemer - Dallas

James Dunkley, trails historian and chairman of the Historic Trails Committee of the Irving Heritage Society, will speak at this special event. He has received the Certificate of Commendation “for distinguished service in the field of historic preservation” from the Texas Historical Commission. James will speak on the correlation of two accounts of Texas history; Roemer's Texas 1845-1847, by Dr. Ferdinand Roemer, and Empire of the Summer Moon, by S.C. Gwynne. This meeting offers a rare and special opportunity to learn from an expert on Texas history. It will also be an opportunity for our researchers to learn from a master. Population Media Center: Conference Call with Emily Seldomridge of the Galveston Bay Foundation

Regardless of where you live in Texas, drought is a fact of life. As Texas quickly grows we must conserve water for drier days and strategically plan to meet projected water demands. As part of the Texas Living Waters Project, and the Galveston Bay Foundation, this month's conference call guest will be Emily Seldomridge. As the Water Policy and Outreach Specialist for Galveston Bay Foundation, Emily will share her perspective on the depth and scope of the challenges we face, as well as best practices moving forward. Emily will discuss the balancing of water needs and available resources, as well as the status of the Texas State Water Planning.

North Texas Giving Day

Donations can be made 6 a.m. to midnight to more than 1,600 certified nonprofits listed on www.NorthTexasGivingDay.org, including 56 local environmental advocacy groups. Donations of $25 and above will be amplified by $2 million in bonus funds and prizes.

Greater Fort Worth Sierra Club: Grand Canyon Trip - Fort Worth

Dale Edelbaum of the Dallas Sierra Club will share stories and photos of his 17-day dory boat trip down the Grand Canyon, covering 221 miles from Lees Ferry to Diamond Creek. Along the way, the river ranged from smooth drifting to enormous rapids. Dale camped along the river and hiked many side canyons. His pictures are enchanting and set to music. The speaker is followed by refreshments and announcements.
