Friends of the Fort Worth Nature Center: 'Broadview: A Spectrum of Nature' Art Exhibit - Fort Worth

Art show and sale hosted by the Friends of the Fort Worth Nature Center.

Forty-four local artists were juried into the show, which features the native flora, fauna and landscapes of North Central Texas. Proceeds from exhibition sales will benefit the Friends of the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge in its efforts to restore the historic Broadview overlook, which the Civilian Conservation Corps constructed in the 1930s.

First Jefferson UU: Film Screening 'Mission Blue' - Fort Worth

Documentary about marine biologist Sylvia Earle's mission to save the ocean. 

Earle was the first female chief scientist of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and was named by Time Magazine as its first Hero for the Planet in 1998.

Earle has written children's books, including Coral Reefs, Hello Fish, Sea Critters and Dive!

Earle has founded three companies, among them DOER Marine (Deep Ocean Exploration and Research) in Alameda, California. In 2009, Earle won a TED Prize. With TED's support, she launched Mission Blue, which aims to establish marine protected areas (dubbed "hope spots") around the globe.

Texas Renewable Energy Industries Association: TREIA Statewide Conference - Dallas

At Texas Renewables 2014, we will explore today’s energy landscape, give a nod to how we got here, acknowledge the significant contribution the  renewable energy industry is making, and discuss the very real role it will play and challenges it will face in shaping Texas’ energy future

Attendees, in the company of hundreds of colleagues old and new, will have the opportunity to hear and meet dozens of distinguished and accomplished speakers who are deep in the fray. Their experience and perspectives will matter as we continue pursuit of a critical and ever growing share of this state’s energy mix.

North Texas Renewable Energy Group: "A Legislative Filing Update for the Upcoming Session in Austin" - Carrollton

In the 2013 legislative session, solar energy won some important victories, due in part to the dedication and actions by many individuals. At one of our past meetings, a state legislator told us as few as five or six people contacting her could make a difference. 

At our special Nov.1 meeting, Russel will talk about the next legislation efforts we can expect from TREIA and others - and what we can do to help. 

Following the presentation, tour the Dallas Makerspace.

Native Prairies Association of Texas Fort Worth Chapter - Native Pollinators & Other Prairie Helpers - Fort Worth

Prairie enthusiasts, master naturalists, bird watchers, landowners, educators and anyone else interested in prairies is welcome. 

Troy Mullens as the guest speaker. If you've ever tried to identify an insect on Google, you've probably run into Troy's photographs. This will be an informative meeting for landowners, gardeners and prairie enthusiasts. Refreshments will be served at 6:30pm and the meeting will begin at 7pm.

The film examines the intersection of human population growth and the decline of wild places and creatures. It concentrates on the magnificent landscapes and seascapes that are being irreversibly altered by overpopulation and increasing per capita consumption rates.

Cedar Valley College: Living Lab Launch - Lancaster

Utilizing the dynamic sustainability learning opportunities available to students on campus, Cedar Valley College is launching a living lab initiative on Oct. 22.

A living laboratory gives college students the hands-on work skills they need as part of the college education they receive in academic and technical programs.

The initiative will be officially presented at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22 in the D Building at CVC, followed at 1 p.m. by a nationwide webcast titled “Empowering Change on Campus and in the Community” that will feature higher education sustainability leaders discussing ways in which students can make a difference, be a part of sustainability solutions and build careers with “green” jobs.

The CVC Living Lab Initiative will focus on four components:

•  Buildings – Students will partner with CVC Facilities to attain hands-on work skills as part of the curriculum, which includes monitoring electric meters in each college building to gather 

• Energy – Performance technology students and Facilities will partner in installing a ceramic sculpture with moving parts powered by solar energy.
