Twelve Hills Nature Center: Work Day - Dallas

Help remove  invasive plants that are growing by leaps and bounds with the warm weather. Target plants are Johnson grass and trumpet vine especially, but thre are plenty of others we’ll tackle as well. Most work will occur in the butterfly garden and along the paths. Bring work gloves, sun hats and sun protection, water, and your favorite tools for weeding.

Citizens Climate Lobby: Meeting - Dallas

Citizen's Climate Lobby is a nonprofit nonpartisan organization working on creating the political will for a livable world. CCL's mission is to empower normal citizens, who care about their world, to engage in conversations with their elected officials.

On June 24, five of us from the DFW chapter went to Capitol Hill and met with Texas congress members.

If you care about the environment and want to get involved in getting an effective climate change policy created, come meet us.

This month, we are meeting to listen to the monthly national call. This month the speaker is Dr. Katharine Hayhoe, a well-known climate scientist who was featured in the TV series "Years of Living Dangerously." The call starts at noon.

Solar Car Challenge - Fort Worth

The Solar Car Challenge was established in 1993 to help motivate students in science and engineering, and to increase alternative energy awareness. The Challenge teaches high school students around the world how to build roadworthy solar cars.

On alternating years, teams race around the world-famous Texas Motor Speedway or drive cross-country to share their projects with millions of people.

The 2014 Solar Car Challenge hosted by Austin Energy is a hybrid closed-track/cross-country event, spending two days at the world famous Texas Motor Speedway July 21-22, then heading out on the road to Austin July 23-24. Come share the fun... meet the kids and see their solar cars.
