Friends of Tandy Hills Natural Area: Prairie Posse - Fort Worth

Are you one of those people who has wanted to help out Tandy Hills in a direct way? Here's your chance. A small crew of volunteers is needed to clear the trails and other areas on a monthly basis, every third Saturday. Jason Singhurst is the speaker. Jason Singhurst has been a botanist/plant ecologist at Texas Parks & Wildlife Department for over 20 years. He coordinated a 95-county tallgrass prairie mapping project in Texas with a partnership with NPAT. As a result of this mapping project partnership, Jason joined the NPAT board and has assisted with the Property, Acquisition and Management Team. He has described five plant species new to science that are endemic (restricted) to Texas and co-authored the book Rare Plants of Texas.

Texas Master Naturalists, Elm Fork Chapter: Hentzi Tarantula Project - Denton

This month, Leah Patton  will discuss the Texas tarantula population and her work with the Hentzi Project, which is a 10-year attempt to reintroduce a population of the Hentzi tarantula into a controlled Wildlife area. 

Leah is a local spider expert. She has rescued tarantulas from several sites throughout North Texas where they have lost their homes to development or invasive species. She has been collecting and raising baby spiders for release at several controlled Wildlife areas including LLELA.  She is often referred to as the “Spider Queen”.
