The Rocky Mountain Institute, established in 1982, is a self-described "non-profit think-and-do tank" whose current strategic focus is "Reinventing Fire," which aims at "mapping and driving the business-led transition from fossil fuels to efficiency and renewable energy" by 2050.
 
RMI will be in Dallas the day after Earth Day to collaborate with the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture for an evening symposium emphasizing the cultural impact of this timely and critical issue.

Fort Worth Prairie Fest is the annual fundraiser for Friends of Tandy Hills Natural Area. Learn more about how funds are plowed back into Tandy Hills HERE.

Prairie Fest grew from a small neighborhood event in 2006 to become the “Best Outdoor Cultural Event in 2010”, according to the Fort Worth Weekly. By 2011, Prairie Fest had attracted hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of visitors to Tandy Hills.

For 2012, Prairie Fest has been re-imagined and re-focused back to discovery and enjoyment of Tandy Hills, itself. Instead of a single event, there will be three festivals throughout the Spring on the last Saturdays of March, April and May. Event hours will be from 4 PM - Dusk.

The Root Awakening. Dedicated to spreading awareness about environmental conservation.
 
Organized by two senior students at the school for the Talented and Gifted at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center, class of 2012. They are officers of "S.A.G.A." (Students Against Global Abuse), the first enviromental organization at their school.
 
These two students helped to organize the first recycling system at their school, and established a partnership with the local non-profit organization "For the Love of the Lake." Since then, they've been the student voices for this organization, encouraging peer participation every Saturday cleaning up White Rock Lake.
 
They are trying to raise awareness about environmental conservation by hosting a festival near white rock lake and bringing our community together for the environmental cause.
 
The festival will take place March 24th, 2012 from 9 AM to 1 PM at Flag Pole Hill near White Rock Lake, 8100 Doran Circle. Dallas, TX.

What will I do in the class?

Basics: Gain knowledge needed to turn your bare ground or Bermuda
grass lawn into raised-garden beds – in the right place, with the
right soil, at the right time, with the right plants. Small enough to
manage, big enough to provide real food.
Techniques: Raised beds; soil, mulch, and compost;
bio-intensive/square-foot gardening, organic methods.

This event is at Classic Pilates 3303 Lee Parkway Suite 105 Dallas Tx 75219. Tickets are available at the Northpark Aveda as well as at the studio. All payments are cash or check only and made out to the Gulf Restoration Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting clean water in the Gulf of Mexico. The event will feature wine and food as well as a silent auction, an organic farmer from Good Earth Organic Farm, guest speaker Blair Lewis on his book HappinessRevolution, a history on Pilates, as well as the history of the Gulf Restoration Network. There will also be massage therapists to give chair massages and hair stylists doing hair touch ups.

Tickets are $30 and the VIP tickets are $50. There are two different swag bags for the different tickets and 50 VIP tickets are available. 'Swag bags' valued at around $150 to $300 will be given to each person who purchases a ticket. 

We may hear some bumps in the night, but have no fear...it’s probably just an armadillo. Follow our trail guides on a moonlit stroll down the Redbud Trail. Coyotes howling, owls hooting, and other nocturnal sounds will provide an out-of-the-ordinary hiking experience.

No flashlights are necessary. Ages 5 years and up. The hike will be rescheduled in the event of rain. Registration required at 972-219-3930 or lisacole@unt.edu.

The hike is $7 per person, or $2/person for LLELA season pass holders.
