Bird and nature walks, tree and plant identification, and more
Small is beautiful at Tandy Hills in early March when the rare, beautiful and diminutive Trout Lily blooms (we hope). Known as one of the harbingers of Spring, Trout Lilies are one of the signature wildflowers at Tandy Hills and a fascinating plant to learn about. Master Naturalists, Jim Varumn and Sam Kieschnick, will lead a TL fishing expedition. Free.
We'll walk on the nature trails along creeks, past the historic Perry Homestead and Cemetery, plus the walk will start and finish in historic downtown Carrollton. Consider having lunch at the C2 Cafe before the walk.
Project Bluebird is a group of volunteers who maintain bluebird boxes along the Trinity Trail in Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Botanic Garden and other locations. The gathering will feature food, drink and conversation as they prepare to kickoff the bluebird nesting season.
1 - 2 p.m and 3 - 4 p.m.
Animals, like people, prefer certain foods over others. For instance a prairie dog doesn’t eat mice, just like a skunk is not likely to eat acorns. Why is that? Join us as we take a short hike and ‘find our animals’ along the trail and then set up a picnic lunch for them with their favorite food. This program is designed for children ages 3 - 5 and their adult companions. Free with paid admission.
We will be clearing the trail of tree limbs and removing selected privet (Ligustrum sp.)
NOTE: Activity involves hiking about two miles into the bottomland forest. Wear sturdy shoes and long pants. Bring water and use sunscreen protection. Bring hand pruners and loppers if you have any.

A tour of our gardens is one way to share Valentine’s Day with the one you love. See some of the hidden treasures at Texas Discovery Gardens. Tour ends in time for the Butterfly Release talk at noon in the conservatory. Included with admission.
Release ladybugs into the Butterfly House, enjoy chocolate-covered bugs and hear John Watts speak about Bug Love. $35 or $50/couple.
This month, a large youth group from First Baptist Church will help remove brush (privet) in Rosser’s Meadow. Since they are inexperienced in privet removal, experienced privet removers are needed to guide this group. If you have experience in removing privet (brush) or want to learn how, please stop by.
Please bring your favorite work gloves, or shovel

We’ll have a guided bird walk led by an experienced birder who will help us identify and count the birds we see. Bring your binoculars, cameras, and hiking shoes and help us count the birds that visit O.S. Gray.
The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent. Anyone can participate, from beginning bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15 minutes on one day, or you can count for as long as you like each day of the event. It’s free, fun, and easy—and it helps the birds.
