Bob Jones Nature Center Book Club: "Teaching the Trees" - Southlake

The group will discuss the first 50 pages of Teaching the Trees: Lessons from the Forest by Joan Maloof. The discussion will continue July 5 and July 12. Geared to ages 15 and older. Free for members. Nonmembers are invited to give a small donation. Bring a lunch.

Reading schedule for Teaching the Trees book discussion:

1st Friday, 6/28 - pages 1-47 (“Old-Growth Air” through “Pine”)
2nd Friday, 7/5 - pages 48-95 (“Grandfather Trees” through “Holly”)
3rd Friday, 7/12 - pages 96-142 (“Bald Cypress” through “Things of this World”)

Flower Mound Foundation: The Flower Mound's Colorful History - Flower Mound

Long time Flower Mound residents Alton Bowman and Mark Glover will provide a historical overview of The Flower Mound, the town’s historic landmark, its colorful history and rich heritage. Free. Register: 972-874-6165.  

Alton Bowman is the author of The Flower Mound: A History and Field Guide to the Flowers and Grasses. Local historian and writer Mark Glover is a native of the area and the son-in-law of Flower Mound's first mayor, Bob Rheudasil. 

Connemara Conservancy: Astronomy on the Meadow Night Walk - Allen

Guided 1.5-mile night walk in Connemara Meadow. Bring a flashlight and binoculars or spotting scope. Meet at the Suncreek Park circular parking lot down the road from Connemara Meadow at 9pm sharp. The Native Plant Society of Texas: "Ecology of Blackland Prairie, Grand Prairie and Western Crosstimber" - Dallas

Jim Eidson from The Nature Conservancy on “Vegetation and Ecology of Blackland Prairie, Grand Prairie and Western Crosstimbers of North Central Texas”

Jim Eidson is a range ecologist (MS TAMU-College Station) who has focused on prairie restoration and grassland ecology for more than 20 years. Jim is employed by The Nature Conservancy where he has held various positions for the past 18 years. He is also adjunct faculty at TAMU-Commerce where he teaches courses titled "Ecological Restoration" and " Plant Diversity and Conservation".
