Texas Sierra Club recognizes green leaders in North Texas

North Texas environmentalists were among 19 honored by Sierra Club Saturday at Texas’ Lone Star Chapter’s awards. Sierra members from around the state gathered in Addison to acknowledge efforts statewide from both 2013 and 2014.

Last month, Texas became the 10th U.S. state to ban the shark fin trade, thanks to the backing of powerful animal advocacy groups, including the U.S. Humane Society, Humane Society International and Oceana. But it was a shark-loving environmentalist in Dallas who was the first to dive into the statewide campaign.

The 84th Texas Legislature began hearings March 23 on the first of a flood of bills, of which 60 percent related to the environment were listed as adverse to public health, safety and natural resources by environmental citizens action group Alliance for a Clean Texas.
