Doug Tallamy, author of “Bringing Nature Home: How You Can Sustain Wildlife with Native Plants,” will speak on the importance of using native plants in residential landscapes during the Bringing Nature Home event on Saturday, Jan. 14, 8:15 a.m.-1 p.m., at Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street. The native landscaping event is sponsored by the Friends of Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLELA) and Lewisville Parks and Leisure Services. 

Take a break from the frigid temperatures outside and come into our Earth Explorers Camp as we learn about ways that animals in Texas avoid the ice and snow! For K-4th grade. $140. 

As the trees have dropped their leaves, many forms of wildlife have little cover to hide. Hike the Refuge in search of wildlife that may not be concealed very well.

Get a head start and put feet to a resolution, literally, by getting active and hiking with us. Along with a health walk, learn about the natural world with our skilled naturalist. 

During the week of Dec. 26-30 and Jan. 2-6 2017, FWNC will have activities for families such as Bison Feeding Hayrides, guided hikes and crafts. Call for details.

Make a bookmark out of real snake skin and learn a little more about our slithery reptile residents. One bookmark per person please. All materials provided. 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Admission $2-$5.

Carol Clark will cover the amazing story of the monarch butterfly lifecycle and migration, clarify some common misconceptions about monarchs, explain historic and current threats to monarch populations, and tell why Texas is a pivotal location for monarchs' future success.  The program also covers real steps North Texas residents can take to help bolster the monarch population, and what to plant to feed monarchs. Free packets of local native milkweed seeds and plant lists for North Texas will be available.

Sara Beasley, Center Director for Mitchell Lake Audubon Center in San Antonio, will give creative tips and tricks that will make your experience teaching children about birds and wildlife a little easier and more fun!
