In Spring, wetlands burst into sound as frogs and toads begin their yearly chorus. Learn to distinguish different local frog calls and discover more about threats frogs and toads face in the wild. You will also learn about attracting frogs to your own backyard. $5 (with paid admission).

In 2016, the Friends of Tandy Hills Natural Area wrote a grant and received funding to organize and host the largest BioBlitz in Texas. The Tandy Hills BioBlitz focused on documenting all living species at the park over a continuous 36-hour time period. John and Bruce will present the results of the Tandy Hills BioBlitz, show the professional video created about the event and talk about what comes next.
Owls hooting, armadillos rustling in the underbrush, maybe a coyote howling…we never know what we might hear on a night hike on the trails through Central Park. Join our guides as they lead a stroll down the trail, listening for owls as we go. We’ll end our hike by warming up around a campfire, where we will make s’mores and sip hot chocolate. $5/per person. Join our trail guides as they lead a twilight stroll down one of LLELA’s nature trails. We may hear some bumps in the night, but have no fear...it’s probably just an armadillo. Howling coyotes, hooting owls, and other nocturnal sounds will provide an out-of-the-ordinary hiking experience. Ages 5 and up. $10/person. Join us for a fascinating presentation by Dr. Clay Green, a professor of biology at Texas State University, covering the ecology and behavior of North America’s rarest heron -the Reddish Egret. The talk will also touch on the evolution of plumage coloration in birds, especially in plumage dimorphic species such as Reddish Egrets (Egretta rufescens).
