Tyke Hike (ages 2-5) - Plano

Hey parents, come join the Park Ranger staff for a hike around Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve or Arbor Hills with your little one. As you stroll along you and your child will learn about the plants, animals, and features that make these nature preserves a special place. Register the child only. Parents must accompany children.  We will meet  at the large pavilion on the west side of the parking lot.. Parents with small children may want to bring a stroller, water and snacks.

Join the excitement of the hunt as you search for different locations and features at either Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve or Arbor Hills Nature Preserve. This is a great opportunity to learn about the diverse characteristics that make these preserves a special place. Everyone 12 years old or younger must be accompanied by an adult. 

We will meet at the pavilion by the lake.  Come prepared to hike by wearing comfortable clothing and footwear. Parents with small children may want to bring a stroller. Bring water and snacks.

Mother-Daughter Camping Trip - Plano

Hey moms and daughters, have you ever wanted to learn the basics of camping, but didn't know where to start? If so join Plano Parks and Recreation on an overnight trip to Mineral Wells State Park where you will learn the basics of camping from the professionals from Frisco Outfitters. All supplies and meals covered. Everyone attending must register. A pre-trip meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 3, at 6:30 pm at Liberty Recreation Center.

Lightning Bug Class - Plano

Carlsbad Cavern has bats! Marfa, Texas has sightings of strange lights. Best of all, Plano has its nightly display of lightning bugs. Come experience these insects up close with certified entomologist, David Fincannon, as he teaches you about these bugs' behavior and how they are helping with cancer research. Everyone 12 years of age or younger MUST be accompanied by a registered adult. All those attending must register. NO PETS ALLOWED.

Beginner Kayaking at Oak Point Park - Plano

Learn beginning kayaking skills at the lake located at City of Plano's Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve. This class will be under the direction of an American Canoe Association (ACA) certified instructor who will teach you the ACA Quick Start program. Boats, paddles, and life jackets will be provided. Participants will be required to sign liability waivers. Everyone 17 years of age or younger MUST be accompanied by a registered adult.

Please be aware that while the nature preserve is in City limits, there is wildlife that make the area their home. Animals you might encounter at the perseve can be birds, mamamals and repetils, which includes land and water snakes. You should always be aware of your surroundings while at the preserve and if you come across wildlife respect its habitat and move to another area. You will need to bring the following supplies: Water, Snacks, Aqua soaks or sandles, Sunscreen, Cap, Change of clothes, Towel, Sunglasses.

Junior Explorers (6-10 yrs) - Plano

Fall is a great time to explore the trails of Arbor Hills Nature Preserve while learning about native grasses, flowers, and animals. 

Please have your child bring a water bottle and use the bath room prior to attending this class. The Parks and Recreation Staff will no longer have access to the building. Parents will have to remain outside or drop off your child and return to pick them up. Thank you for your understanding.

Family Halloween Hike - Plano

As Halloween nears come to Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve to the hear the spooky sounds and noises of a fall evening. We will have 'witches brew' and treats. Everyone attending must register. 

Everyone attending this event must register. Refreshments will be served. Your child can wear their costume if they wish. The hike will meet at the pavilion.

Geocaching 101 (6 yrs & up) - Plano

Geocaching is a high-tech treasure-hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with a global positioning system device (GPS). Rapidly gaining in popularity, Geocaching is an entertaining and educational outdoor activity. Whether for family fun, exercise, or the thrill of the hunt, there is a global game board just outside your door with treasures waiting to be discovered. Learn the basics of GPS usage and how to use one to go Geocaching in this informative session. Everyone 16 years old or younger must be accompanied by a registered adult. Price is per person.
