Canoe Tour - Ft Worth

June 11 & 18

8:30 a.m. - Noon

Tour a stretch of the West Fork of the Trinity River to view ducks, herons, beaver and other critters. Sunscreen, water and weather appropriate clothing (including shoes that can get wet) are recommended. Canoes, paddles and lifejackets are provided. Children must be 5 years or older. Parents must sign a liability waiver for minor children. Some previous experience recommended. Registration ends Thursday preceding or when filled. Maximum - 12 participants. Meet at Big River Parking Lot. Pre-registration required. $20 (includes admission fee)/MEMBERS $15.

Evening Stroll with a Naturalist - Ft Worth

Evening Stroll With a Naturalist: Come and enjoy an evening stroll on the Nature Center’s trails as we explore nature before nightfall. Evening provides a unique opportunity to view animals that make the Nature Center home. Bring water and wear weather appropriate clothing. Pre-registration required. $10 (includes admission fee)/MEMBERS $5.

Turtles Up Close - Ft Worth

They have a horny beak instead of teeth but they are not birds. They carry their protection on their backs but
they are not snails. Come close with creatures that inhabit the Metroplex and learn of their unique characteristics and special adaptations. FREE (with paid admission).

Nature KIDS - Ft Worth

Come have fun learning about nature and helping it out! This month we will look for pollinators, observe and learn about our honeybee hive, and make pollinator houses to take home.   This activity is geared for children 3-7 and their parents. $5 per child (with paid admission)/MEMBERS FREE.

Organic Soil Prep, Garden Installation & Maintenance - Ft Worth

*Native Texas Garden Series, Organic Soil Preparation, Garden Installation, and Maintenance:

Learn how to prepare and maintain your soil organically in order to grow native plants and your lawn. We will also cover garden installation of flagstone, boulders and other hardscape elements. A yearly maintenance checklist will be provided covering mulch, year end cleanup, shrub, tree and ornamental grass maintenance and irrigation. Class is geared for adults. FREE (with paid admission).

Scoping the Dog Town - Ft Worth

The Prairie Dog Town is a very popular place for visitors to enjoy our resident Prairie Dogs. Come and join us for a better view of our Prairie Dogs with a spotting scope. You will certainly get a different view of these burrowing masters. Come and go as you please during this time. FREE (with paid admission). 2011 Solar Car Challenge - Justin

The Solar Car Challenge originated in 1993, and has been recognized by "Technology & Learning" as one of the top ten education programs in the country. Our program teaches high school students how to build roadworthy solar cars, and then provides a safe environment to race. NTREG members will participate in various aspects of the race and related activities.

The 2011 Solar Car Challenge is a closed-track event held at the world famous Texas Motor Speedway. Come share the fun... meet the kids and see their solar cars. For more information, see the Calendar.

Straw Bale Building Workshop - Collinsville

Class Description

We will learn to construct a beautiful, natural, earth friendly, energy efficient home! Foundation, walls, windows, framing, and roof construction will be taught. Natural plasters will also be covered as well as poured adobe floors.

Costs: $250 for this 5-day Workshop. (Mail in payment by April 15th for a $25 discount.)

This includes breakfast & supper on the work days, camping fee, and all instruction needed to build a Straw Bale Structure.

Daily rate if you can't make the whole workshop is $60/day, which includes breakfast and supper.

Length of Time:  Workshop will last 5 days.  Depending on distance traveled 4-6 nights.
