Collective Impact - Part of the Social Innovation Luncheon Series

Panel Featuring Susan Hoff of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, Regina Nippert of the Center on Communities and Education at Simmons, Todd Williams of Commit!, and Danny Henley of the Zero-to-Five Funders Collaborative

Stanford Social Innovation Review’s 2010 feature, “Collective Impact,” asserts that large-scale change requires broad, cross-sector coordination. Dallas is home to several such programs who share the ambitious mission of improving student educational achievement. DSVP will assemble a stellar panel of local thought leaders, including Susan Hoff of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, Todd Williams of Commit!, Regina Nippert of the Center on Communities and Education at Simmons, to discuss how this model is impacting our region.

Mercy For Animals - Leafleting - Dallas

One of the most effective techniques for raising awareness about the health and ethical benefits of a plant-based diet is distributing literature in public places with heavy foot-traffic. At the right time and place, just one person can hand out hundreds of brochures in an hour, and inspire countless folks to begin exploring a vegan diet, thus sparing thousands of animals from suffering over the course of their lifetimes.

The times listed are approximate for when the show will let out. We will have a more accurate time the day before the event.

For more information, please email Nora Kramer, Texas Campaign Coordinator at norak@mercyforanimals.org or call 415-710-7351. An RSVP is not required, but it will help us determine the correct number of leaflets to bring. We will also notify you of the exact time or if we have to cancel the event due to bad weather.

Where: 3524 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX
When: Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 9:30 - 10:30 pm

Dallas Cohousing Hanukkah Party

Please join us to celebrate Hanukkah. (Goys welcome!)

We'll provide roast chicken, sweet potato latkes, applesauce and sour cream. Please bring another treat to share.

Describing New York City's first cohousing project, a New York Times article said cohousing speaks to people who want to own a home but not feel lost in an impersonal city. That's how we feel.

And we want to live sustainably, with a smaller carbon footprint. To know our neighbors, grow some of our own food and use our united buying power to support local farmers and dairies. We want to model a more resilient way of life for the DFW metroplex.

We want to live in a diverse community, with old and young, singles and couples, varied backgrounds.

Urban Permaculture Film Screening - Rockwall

Geoff (Jeff) Lawton has made an excellent teaching DVD. He covers everything from sustainable strategies for urban gardening to water tanks to aquaponics to rocket stoves to mini-swales to urban design and more! Just as Permaculture is intensive gardening, this video is intensive teaching. Since 1985, Lawton has undertaken a large number of jobs consulting, designing, teaching and implementing Permaculture systems in over 30 different countries around our planet. He certainly knows his Permaculture and how to teach it.

Video is slightly over 90 minutes long.
